the guys above are in for MORE than just 3k hits or team awards. they were the best at their position, and led the league in several categories for prolonged periods of time.

btw, jetes led the league in hits twice, and runs once. so, his accolades are a few team awards and those 3 times he led in something. Was he ever the games best short stop?

fans all suck in all fan bases... Majority of all fans don't know what they are talking about....

Yankee fans will call jeter the best because of what he meant to them... not because of his numbers...

I am a huge yankee fan... and I have argued that Jeter is OVER-rated as well... But the truth is that the reason he is over-rated is because of his consistency... He never had the GREAT seasons, but he was always a great player...


And of course he is going to be a first ballot HOFer... But I don't think anyone considers him a top 20 offensive player of all time...

Defense is such a weird category though, Jeter gets awarded for BEING a shortstop, but he gets penalized for not being a good one...

It used to maybe mean something when there were 20+ guys who wound up in the Hall on the ballot.

Hell, over 90% of the guys on the very first ballot got in eventually, so it's almost like you couldn't not vote for someone who belonged.
