I do think Jeter is one of the most overrated players ever but 5 rings and 3400+ hits =HOF

Jeter career ops+ 115
Sandberg 114
Sandberg haD 282 homers in many many less at bats than Jeter, including a 40 homer season. When he retired, he had more homers than any 2B in history.
Jeter had 260 total, only three seasons in the 20s, and none over 24.
Sandberg had a career .989 fielding percentage.
Jeter had five completely undeserved gold gloves- his actual stats show him to be a below average SS.
Sandberg was a THIRD ballot hall of famer.

Why is this even a question ... Jeter gets in with 90%+ of the vote .... probably 95%

He has just under 3,500 career hits (really the end of the argument there)
All-Time Post-Season Leader in Hits
Slashed .310/.377/.440 over a 20 year career
5 GG's and 4 SS's
Captained the Yankees to 5 WS titles
Won a WS MVP
Slashed .308/.374/.465 in 158 Post-Season games with 20 HR's
In the World Series - he slashed .321/.384/.449 in 38 games
14x All-Star and ROY

Dude is the embodiment of consistency and an absolute legend

GTFO here

This is an absurd argument which is absolutely cherry picked.

Tram and Lou (Lou only played 19 years) ... Jeter still a 1st ballot ... even the Red Sox fans agree.

Trammel made a huge case for Whitt getting in

Most opportunity as well.

- He was the leader of those teams and a huge reason they reached the post-season
- He hit .308 lifetime in the post-season in 650 AB's and 158 Games... that is not "accumulating". That is dominating consistently on the biggest stage possible over a long span of time. His long post-season career makes his numbers that much more impressive. Not the other way around.

jeter in the regular season
.310 .377 .440 .817

jeter in the playoffs
.308 .374 .465 .838

"clutch"

Is .308 (and .321 in the WS) not clutch? What am I missing? lol

Are we also so disingenuous - as to act like we don't understand that .308 (against elite pitching and huge pressure in every AB) in the post-season is much more impressive than .310 in the regular season?

Ernie Whitt?? Guy was pretty good (great when I played against him as a kid), but no Hall of Famer

Ernie Whitt Stats | Baseball-Reference.com

Lol

Whittaker

F Ernie Whitt, hit a huge homer off Rich Dotson I believe in a Yankee Jays series for the division the last weekend of the season in the early 80s

I remember Phil Niekro winning his 300th the last day of the year in what became a meaningless game thanks to Ernie Whitt

Mea culpa ... In Detroit we never refered to Whitaker as Whitt ... It was always Lou or Sweet Lou!!! Lou Whitaker should have been voted in with Trammel (in his 3rd year of eligibility).

Back to Jeter ... greater than 95%

I think Mo will reach that mark, but there is some anti-Jeter sentiment in the media outside NY, so not so sure

As a life long Red Sox fan (so far) I can't see Jeet not making first ballot HOF.
He is a shoe in without question.

And the hotties he has nailed......He's my idol.

It is very strange that Jetes never got better at going to his left....this weakness was pointed out early on and you would think he would have really worked on it.
I did love the way he took popups to the short OF with his back to home plate, cool to watch and it just seemed to make sense when he did it. I would assume he changed his approach with a runner on third....
