Jeter career ops+ 115
Sandberg 114
Sandberg haD 282 homers in many many less at bats than Jeter, including a 40 homer season. When he retired, he had more homers than any 2B in history.
Jeter had 260 total, only three seasons in the 20s, and none over 24.
Sandberg had a career .989 fielding percentage.
Jeter had five completely undeserved gold gloves- his actual stats show him to be a below average SS.
Sandberg was a THIRD ballot hall of famer.

Yeah, but Sandberg struckout way more than Jeter.

Oh. . . . . . wait a second. Nevermind.

Yes he should, and Sandberg should have made it his first time IMO. Jeter was ROY, had over 200 hits 8 times, his numbers were actually better in the playoffs and he was incredibly clutch, his OPS was higher than Sandbergs (817 to 795), his OBP was higher (377 to 344) and his batting average was 310 compared to Sandberg's 285. They also didn't plat the same position so comparing them is a bit of apples and oranges. Jeter's defensive issues were greatly over blown.

You forgot the 5 rings, as well as the 25 point difference in career batting average and the 33 point difference in career OBP. Jeter was a lead-off hitter, not a 3 or 4 hole hitter. His job was to get on base, not to hit HR.

He's going in first ballot. Might as well accept it.

Derek had almost 3000 more ABs than Sandberg...having a higher OPS+ in a longer career points to him being a superior offensive player. Jeter also played in a tough hitter's park for a righty and Ryne played in a nice hitter's park for anybody. IHMO, Ryne was a better 2Bman than his reputation suggests, but SS is a tougher position than 2B. Sandberg did have an unusual ability to go way down for a grounder while still running at full speed on balls that most players had to dive for, something that I came to appreciate more and more as I watched him over the years.

It's hard for me to type this, I loved Sandberg as a player and own a repro Cubbies jersey of his. Ryne really screwed himself over with the false retirement, but I guess that corn dress wearing shrew/harlot of a first wife totally messed him over. Pretty common knowledge that she was banging the present Nationals' manager and a bunch of other guys while still married to Ryne...

You do know that journalists hanging on to their bar stools with one hand and posting tweets with the other are responsible for all this don't you?

How about Jorge Posada? 8th highest catcher OPS in history. Just saying...

His being removed from the ballot so Quick was criminal

Doesn't mean he was a HOFer, just a lot closer than you think when you look at catchers that are in

r u out of your mind. Jeter is a hands down 1st ballot hall of famed. not only was he a class act off the field but also on it. but I know it comes down to stats and not about how he acts. and his stats arent that bad either go look them up then see if you still think he isnt a first ballot

I've given Jetes a lot of crap with friends and online over the years, but I always say I'd have been very happy for him to have spent his career in Boston.
I do love the "What are your hopes? What are your dreams?" stories, though...I wonder if he got near Wilt the Stilt's level when it came to banging mass quantities of chicks.
Jetes is kind of the modern day DiMaggio (Joe that is) as far as dealing with the media, never gave them anything personal or meaningful and just said the predictable "right" thing. I think Jetes was being savvy while Clipper just didn't have much to say...

I would be totally shocked if he is not selected with the first ballot.
