Watched this movie when it first came out, and bought it when it first released lol. Guillermo Del Toro knocked this one out of the park. Great plot! Yes it has some flaws and overextension of the material, but overall this movie has the scare factor that you want. Not just loud jump scares, however it does have them. Trust me they are good ones though. Creeped me the fuck out at multiple different points. I highly recommend this movie!

9.5/10

Finally watched this one. Del Toro was an executive producer which basically means he organized the whole thing but was not hands on during the filming (at least that is the general definition).

Very good movie! I think 9.5 might be a bit strong but it is certainly is in that range.

The fxs were top notch. The acting was solid. The cinematography was excellent. All signs of a Del Toro flick (maybe he was hands on after all?). The director did a great job with the kids. It was a bit slow at some points but not many flaws.

Can't believe I missed it until now!

Cargo (2018)

On Netflix! Not really sure what to think of this film. While it presented some very unique & refreshing ideas to the Z-genre, it also was one of the more uneventful movies that I have ever seen. I wouldn't go as far as to call it boring, but damn did it drag. Derived from an Aussie short film production dual-directed by Ben Howling & Yolanda Ramke. You can certainly tell the duo are very inexperienced when it comes to feature length production films. There were a plethora of poorly developed characters, scenes, & script dialogue. Made the entire film feel like a struggle to finish. It focused on human nature, yet it felt so disconnected. Even the character relationships between Andy & Thoomi felt forced when you could tell the writers wanted it to feel more genuine by the end of the film. The only genuine emotion I felt was from Andy (Martin Freeman). He was about the only actor that I felt delivered a good performance. The ending fell flat for me because of that disconnected character relationship. For what was supposed to be some profound moment of triumph, I felt as if I was simply glad to see the predictable conclusion. The cinematography & score were on point. The gore & makeup fx were top notch. Overall I'd say it was worth the watch but I wouldn't say that I loved it.

Unique Z-film that drags & struggles to finish... 5.5/10
