Looked up Deep Blue Sea 2 on IMDB and found this bad boy on the "People who like this also liked..." section:

You watching it?
I watched maybe the first 30s before cringing my way towards the stop button.

Always a mixed bag, but I usually use 4.5 IMDB rating as my cutoff for new material. Anything lower then I won't even watch the trailer lol.

IFC has been making some good stuff the last couple years. Far & away better than their original stuff from the early years.

The Titan (2018)

On Netflix! Seen this plot a few times before, but this movie had a better budget & overall felt like a better experience. Can't quite recall which movies were the same though, but I know I've seen at least 1-2 like it. Definitely more of a sci-fi thriller than horror, but entertaining nonetheless.

The premise was simple, Earth is dying and the only viable solution is to send humans to a planet that requires an aggressive human DNA manipulation for successful adaptation. As you can tell from the trailer the DNA manipulation & resulting effects are the focus.

Although it was riddled with predictable clichés it still maintained a good level of curiosity & interest in its plotline. There were some strange moments in this movie that made it more of a love story, but I didn't dwell on them. I think the makeup fx irritated me more than the love story lol. Somethin about the final mutation that felt a little silly. If it were a more menacing look it may have amped up the scare factor a little. Also didn't care for the communication narrative to where they suddenly couldn't speak. Thought that was a stupid idea that could have been done without. The acting was superb IMO. Not a huge fan of Sam Worthington, but he did an admirable job. Taylor Schilling was particularly amazing. The climax was a little flat but for a "straight to release" type of movie this was worth the watch. It jumps between some outlandish concepts which blurrs the focus of the movie. The concept might have been a tad too ambitious in that regard because it left some gaps & plot holes, but overall I enjoyed it.

Could have been better, but still solid... 7/10
