The roster is stronger than ever
General manager Brian Cashman was of course quite active leading up to the non-waiver trade deadline. Todd Frazier is now pinning down third base. Sonny Gray has solidified the front of the rotation, and Jaime Garcia gives them depth. As well, adding David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle to a relief corps that already includes Aroldis Chapman, Dellin Betances and Chad Green gives manager Joe Girardi the makings of an absolutely dominant playoff bullpen. Matt Holliday is back. Greg Bird is healthy again and slugging a respectable .452 since his return. Aaron Judge has arrested his second-half decline and is now going off in September. Too often, when we contemplate a team's strength heading into the postseason, we get lost in the body of work. It's really more about the current roster, and the Yankees' current roster is an impressive one.

For all these reasons, you probably need to stop thinking of the Yankees as a team flush with high-ceiling young talent that slipped into the postseason a bit sooner than we expected. Instead, you should think of them as being on the short list of best teams in baseball and viable threats to win the World Series.
I do have to say---- I think the bullpen matters more in October--- and the Yankee bullpen is loaded.

Roberstson, Green, Bettances, Chapman.

thats 4 really good relievers.

While I do not think a rotation of Severino, Gray, Tanaka, (then what?- CC? Garcia?) is hugely intimidating or anything--- they really dont have to go 7-8 innings. If they get through 6 without getting hammered they should give the Yanks a good chance.

The Red Sox bullpen, besides Kimbrel of course, just isnt that scary. And honestly- the Yanks obviously dont have a guy like Sale--- but the Yanks 3 some of Severino, Gray, Tanaka might be better than the Red Sox's trio of Sale, Porcello, Pomerantz (which i am guessing would be the Red Sox playoff rotation---- maybe not- I mean- maybe Fister or ERod get in there)

After last year a good buddy of mine kept insisting that while Lindor has the better glove, Bogaertes was the better hitter/fantasy player. Looks like that was put to bed.

I hear you. I've gotten into a bad habit of falling asleep putting the kids to bed around 8:30-9:00, waking up around 1:30-2:00, back to sleep around 4 and then back up at 6. Probably happened five times this past week. FUcking sucks.

Indians will beat the Yanks, if the Yanks get there, but Ill talk shit all day long until than

Yes, Boegarts has been the most overrated player in the game for a while IMO.....At his best, he is a nice average hitter, and not much more....Lindor/Correa/Seager, even Didi now, on a completely different level

You must be a Brewers fan, a Red Sox fan would never claim that dont benefit from the same advantages as the Yankees

Meh. Red Sox and Blue Jays should have beaten the Indians last year and the Cubs should have destroyed them. You just never know.

Having gone into extras in game seven last year and now being arguably the best team in the bigs, I feel like it's so fucking close. I can't stand the anticipation.

Gets to play the Mets every year.
Gets an "away" series relocated to across town due to weather.

Is complaining about the schedule. :L

Gets to play the Phillies for 7 straight days, and a mysterious series vs the Reds in a late September pennant race, and complains about others complaining

Not true. ARod was blocked from going to bawstun but allowed to go to Fraudkees. Commish also blocked Joe Rudi and Rollie Fingers going to bawstun but never blocked anyone going to NY.

Kluber will be the difference.....Absolutely dominates the Yankees, and Id expect to see him in some way shape and form, a lot in that series

Arod was blocked from going to Boston by the Players Union, because he was willing to take a reduced pay, and the PU didnt like the precedent that woudl set

Link to the Sox playing the Phillies 7 straight days?

It's too bad the Yankees didn't have an opportunity to play the Reds. Oh wait. . .

An advantage is an advantage, regardless of where it originates.

So Indians fans are scared of the Yankees.
its just baseball.

out of all the 3 major sports (no hockey isnt a major sport)- baseball is DEFINITELY the major sport with the most random results.

I think I can say with confidence that the Indians are the best team in the AL, but having said that, I mean- would I say their chances of getting out of the AL better than 50%? ehhh.....maybe a little? probably not?

The Indians are the best team in the AL--- but just the nature of baseball means that they are not any kind of overwhelming favorite to make it out of the AL.

Gary Sanchez sucker punches guy in the face. Only a 3 game suspension.

Yordana Ventura (RIP) suspended 9 games for throwing a baseball at Machado. Yeah that seems fair.
