A smarter move than most will think on this board. The offense will survive. Cooks, Edelman, and X ham and egger is more than enough to move the offense. It sucks to lose Lewis and Gronk, but the D is a disaster zone and you can't rely on finesse to keep PPG down over long samples. You need talent, and you can't fake talent on D like you can (or to the same degree anyway) on O via the QB and scheme. If the Pats are truly all in, this is the counterintuitive move to make.

The big question has to be who though? Rams (I still really like Everett long term) and 49ers (roster is pretty shitty and not sure Gronk is a great fit unless they're as high as their fans are on Jimmy G) have been mentioned around here, but how much sense do they really make?

Between this, Malcolm Butler, and rumors of drama at the Pats facility, is this the first time in over a decade we see anti-hoody Pats fans emerge? Seems like a good way to piss off people.

Many of us are likely pissed. Not sure it's the first time in a decade either?

However, it's been difficult to hate on BB with everything he's done for this organization. What's starting to grow on us (I believe) is the cumulative total of non-partisan decisions he's made.

Would hate to lose Gronk. But the writting seems to be on the wall. So whether it's this year, next or the year after. If he can get a 2nd rounder, or LT or off the line LB that helps NE this year I say make the trade.

Personally I think BB is trying to tank the whole roster so he can ride off into the sunset and leave nothing for Kraft/McDaniels to work with since they both road his coat tails for sooooo long!

Don't be the Lions...

Our GM drafted a fucking long snapper. No reason to think he wouldn't trade a second first for a broken, brittle TE.

Depending on what he gets this could fit right into that theory of Belichick is scorch earthing the Patriots (because let's be honest, there is no reason to think McDaniels would be a good head coach).

Seriously?

Thought we were the only franchise that stupid.

Ours never played in a game though. And our former-current long snapper is the longest tenured in the league. Prolly as much of a wasted pick as when we drafted Fat Mike Williams after his year hiatus from football. And exercise.

Butler was the issue not the hooded one.

As a long-term play it's the smart move to trade him now. He's been wishy-washy about playing so you can really only count on him for 2018 (maybe) and beyond that the odds of him calling it quits just increases.

His value isn't going up but down so it's not a bad move to grab a draft pick and get a player that could be a starter for you and contribute for longer than Gronk would.

But I don't think the Pats land anything better than a 3rd for him. It's a bit of a tough sell on a guy that has a injury list that probably is in a binder not a folder and could retire after 2018. Any team that trade for him will likely have to add another 0 to the end of his average yearly salary if they want him to ensure he sticks around longer than a season.
