We really need to get a daily baseball thread going again, especially now that we got some new FanNation MLB guys.

We were doing 1,000 comments a day on baseball threads, although most weren't about baseball...

The Angels needed a closer in the worst way. In fact, they've needed bullpen help for about five years now. Good to see that someone in that organization finally figured that out.

and we sink further into the muck and mediocrity of the cellar in the NL West.

I am assuming that getting Lindsey is a precursor to trading Headley. Then move Gyorko over to 3B?

Gyorko has been abysmal this season. Literally one of the worst offensive players in the bigs. :L

The move makes sense. So we lose a few more games this season. We dump salary and by all accounts got a very respectable return on Street. I like it a lot.

The Padres on Friday traded closer Huston Street and relief prospect Trevor Gott to the Angels for four minor leaguers, with the general consensus being that the San Diego’s return was more than respectable.

More about who the Padres got here...

Taylor Lindsey, 2B - Angels #1 prospect (going straight to AAA)
Jose Rondon, SS - Angels #2 prospect
R.J. Alvarez, RHP (immediate impact)
Elliot Morris, RHP (4th-rounder last year)

not a fan of this move. lol. good for the halos, though. I would say it's smart of them address their greatest need, but it's actually just common sense.

meanwhile, the m's are looking to add pitching. makes perfect sense for a team that's in the bottom 2-3 in their league offensively, and dead last in several categories.

herp derp.

Benoit is the new closer for the Padres.

Black said the roles of Padres relievers behind new closer Joaquin Benoit will be a mix-and-match proposition depending on who is fresh and who is pitching well.
