Yeah I read that...and glad they are working to avoid it.

I hated the last time the Pens/Flyers weren't in the same division without those rivalries it didn't feel the same. Kind of what happened with the Capitals left the Patrick Division.

Why ruin great rivalries again?
If they do this and the Penguins lose out they would be crazy to not keep Detroit with Chicago. If not that division wouldn't have the drawing power, not meaning the fans of the teams (most are good) but the star power of the teams.
The other part is this change might bury teams like Florida and Phoenix which would force them to have to move and cause another realignment.

The NHL also has to consider not only pissed off fanbases, but their precious national television ratings as well. THAT is where the decision would hurt them most. A Flyers/Penguins matchup on a Sunday afternoon on NBC or Tuesday on Versus is going to draw more than Sabres/Pens EVERY time. Same with Detroit vs. Chicago... the eyeballs on that compared to a Detroit/Ottawa (or whatever) just won't hold up.

PLUS the plan to only play out-of-divison opponents twice a year hurts also. Flyers/Caps currently play 4 FOUR times a season, and that draws viewers just like Pens/Caps. If you cut that in half, it just takes from the overall fun of the league. Ducks and Red Wings are the same... that is a great matchup and it would be a shame to only have it two times a year instead of four.

So blah blah blah.. long story short... the NHL has some tough choices on its plate over this mess. It really could make or break the league in the long run as far as exposure.:lm:
