Fletcher Cox is the best DT in the NFL

You take the award, I'll keep the better player.

The award is a pretty fair assessment of who the top players are at their positions. Cox was All Pro last year. He just doesn't have the name recognition cause he plays on a bad D. Arguments can be made for all those players and its all subjective but Cox is a TREMENDOUS DT and if you watched the Eagles this year the guy flat out DOMINATED at a position that is really asked to just take on OLineman and let LBers make the plays. If he played in a 4-3 alignment he'd be in the discussion for defensive player of the year.

Those are all tremendous players... but not in a "heart beat". I bet Cox is named first team all pro over Suh, Short and Atkins.

Both Donald and Atkins were the highest rated DT's in football, per PFF. Cox is good, but the metrics currently used by many (including a few NFL teams) bare out that Cox is not as good as either of them at DT.

Also, according to PFF, Cox wasn't even the highest rated defender on his team, Malcom Jenkins was at 89, which means Cox didn't even break a 90 rating for PF. Atkins and Donald were both in the 90's (93 to 99 respectively) and were their defenses highest rated players.

No, the proof is in the pudding. Cox made 2nd team all pro and got beat out by Atkins for 1st team. Cox is one of the the best DT's in the game and making an all pro team at 3-4 shows he is a tremendous force. I thought Cox had a better year than Atkins but the experts disagree with me. If Cox didnt make 2nd team all pro Id look like a fool. But the AP see's him as one of the 4 best DT's in the game and that tremendous.

Dude, he made 2nd team all pro. That means he was voted as one of the 4 best DT's in the league. Calais is excellent but didnt make 1st or 2nd team all pro. Cox did.

What is sad about this is there were actually 3 people who didnt vote Donald as 1st team all pro. What were those guys thinking. He was CLEARLY the best DT in the league.
