I did not. I'm not that smart. Or at least, I'm not familiar enough with it to pull it off and I didn't think asking a co-worker for help with an NFL team ranking for a message board while I'm supposed to be working would be a good idea.

@WizardHawk Interested in playing with this?

Why would I take points away for losing a Super Bowl? Are you saying losing a Super Bowl is less of an accomplishment than not even making the playoffs?

I meant just not award points for losing a SB, that's taking away the 5 points you're granting for losing which is preposterous....The winner gets points, the loser gets nothing in the whole formula except that...Looks very suspicious on your part...

Call me crazy, but I consider getting to the Super Bowl to be an accomplishment.

So is getting in the playoffs, and to the Championship round but the loser takes nothing but a loss home with him at the end of the game....But I don't expect that you will give up your only trump card, or your boys drop way down the list, and I'm sure you figured this out before you posted your formula....
It's hard to get things by us old guys, we pay attention to detail like that....

It's really pretty crazy just how bad the Chiefs were during the mid 70's up until the 90's started.

So is getting in the playoffs

Is it? The Seahawks made it in 09 with a losing record. Broncos made it in 11 at 8-8. Tim Tebow's started 2 playoff games. Just making the playoffs, in and of itself, isn't the greatest accomplishment.

If I kept everything else the same and simply eliminated Super Bowl losses, the Broncos would drop all the way down to...

a 5th place tie with the Packers.

Well you have to get in to have a chance to win it all and they were the best of their division regardless of the record, they got in....I saw NE go 11-5 one year and missed the playoffs, that's the flawed NFL sytem's fault not theirs...

It's definitely an accomplishment, but is it on the same level as making it to the Super Bowl? I certainly don't think so.

Agreed. I guess I kinda implied in my post that it wasn't an accomplishment. My bad. Also diminishing the accomplishments of Tim Tebow. Shame on me. I'm a horrible Tebow fan.

Whatever, it's still flawed because you are counting games that were played before other teams even existed.
If you did the last 20 yrs on all teams, it would no doubt look vastly different.
But it is the off season, and we have to have something to talk about, so have at it.....
At least not awarding losers points makes it sound fairer anyway...

Well it is a ranking of teams for the entire Super Bowl era. That was kind of the point. I weighted it somewhat to mitigate the expansion team factors, but obviously it's going to hurt teams that haven't been around the whole time.

If you want to do a ranking of franchises for the last 20 years (gee, I can't imagine why you land on that number :rolleyes2:), feel free. I gave you my formula, feel free to use it, tweak it, or ignore it. I wasn't really interested in ranking teams for the last 20 years. Hence why my formula took into account the entire Super Bowl era.

I can't in a non-sarcastic way. Wouldn't Denver be ranked even higher just taking the last 20 years into account? 4 SBs, 3 wins. Would've made us Broncos fans look like homers just ranking the past 20 years if you did that.

So in the last 20 years the broncos would still have 3 SB wins, very few losing seasons.
Pats would be clear #1.
Baltimore Browns would look a little better.

Who wants to skew the rankings now?

Well I assume he picked 20 because that's when the Ravens started, and he thinks that will move them up in the ranks, which it probably would.

But you're right in that the Broncos would do very well. In the last 20 years, the Broncos have 13 winning seasons, 12 trips to the playoffs, 3 losing seasons, 3 Super Bowl wins, and 1 Super Bowl loss. That would be a score of 97 on the BS scale.

The Patriots would score an obscene 136 in the last 20 years.

I don't really care, I was just stirring the pot a little...Polls and Rankings are about as dependable as a politician's word...Good for a conversation then to be forgotten...And of course the 20 yrs was for the Ravens, what else ??
