I'm betting it's the Pats or Stealers.

I doubt it is the Pats. They were pretty bad for a long time before they went on this nice run over the last 15 or so years. My guess is Steelers and then Cowboys.

But SB wins and even SB losses carry a lot of points in his formula so that could push the Pats way up.

Has to be the Steelers.

Tied for most SB appearances, most SB wins and they haven't had too many extended period of losing seasons.

I wonder who owns the record for most Super Bowl losses. Going on a wild limb and saying its the OPs team

The top 10! If your favorite team is on this list, congratulations for cheering for one of the NFL's elite franchises! Now, on to the list!

10. Washington Redskins - BS 72

3 Super Bowl wins and 2 more appearances help push the Redskins into the top 10. They also have 25 winning seasons, 18 trips to the playoffs, and 18 losing seasons.

9. Oakland Raiders - BS 79

Despite their recent awfulness, the historical greatness of the Raiders pushes them to number 9. Like the Redskins, the Raiders have 3 Super Bowl wins and 2 losses, they've had 26 winning seasons and 21 trips to the playoffs against only 17 losing seasons.

8. Minnesota Vikings - BS 80

Surprised to see them this high? I know I was. Despite not winning a Super Bowl, the Vikings still rank in the top 10 thanks to 30 winning seasons 28 trips to the playoffs (the second most all time). Add in 4 trips to the big game and only 14 losing seasons in their history, and it becomes clear why the Vikings rank so highly despite the obvious gap in their resume.

7. Green Bay Packers - BS 85

Placing one spot above their NFC North rivals, the Packers come in 7th thanks in large part to 4 Super Bowl wins. They also have 1 other appearance in the big game. The Packers also boast 27 winning seasons, 22 trips to the playoffs, and just 18 losing seasons.

6. Miami Dolphins - BS 87

In 50 seasons, the Dolphins have managed a winning record 29 times, 22 trips to the playoffs, 2 Super Bowl wins, and 3 more Super Bowl losses. Like the Vikings, they only have 14 losing seasons.

True but the Cowboys and Steelers have just as many Super Bowl appearances and more wins in the Super Bowls. Throw in while the Cowboys were bad over the past 15 years they were the model franchise for a very long time. So as of right now they have more wins regular season and have more playoff appearances.

Did the perfect season get 'em an extra point or 2? Seems like it should.

You would be correct. The Broncos are tied for most Super Bowl appearances of any team at 8 with 3 wins and 5 losses. So yes I am sure there is a bit of bias in his point system but again there is no perfect system to show which franchises have been the greatest.

Its a shit ton of bias. Broncos are a top 10 franchise but since he'll rank them top 5 then this should probably just be laughed at.

But why? Why wouldn't the Broncos be a top-5 franchise? I mean they are top-10 in Super Bowl wins, tied for tops in actual Super Bowl appearances. They are top-10 in winning percentage and top-3 in wins since the NFL merger in 1970. I could list more but they are one of the storied franchises in the NFL.

The truly elite of the elite, the top 5 NFL franchises!

5. San Francisco 49ers - BS 95

5 Super Bowl wins, 1 Super Bowl loss, 27 winning seasons, 24 trips to the playoffs. The only thing holding the 49ers back is 19 losing seasons, which is the highest of the top 5.

4. Denver Broncos - BS 105

Despite losing the most Super Bowls all time (5), the Broncos still have 3 Super Bowl wins to brag about. Add to that 28 winning seasons, 22 trips to the playoffs, and only 14 losing seasons, and it's easy to see why the Broncos rank as high as they did.

3. New England Patriots - BS 118

The Patriots can thank Tom Brady and Bill Belichick for ranking in the top 3. Those two combined for 6 of the Patriots 8 Super Bowl appearances, as well as all 4 wins. They've also helped the Patriots accumulate 34 winning seasons (tied for the most) and 22 trips to the playoffs. Amazingly, none of the Patriots 16 losing seasons can be attributed to them.

2. Dallas Cowboys - BS 122

5 Super Bowl wins and 3 losses for the Cowboys. Like the Patriots, they have 34 winning seasons and just 12 losing seasons (the fewest of any team). They've also made the playoffs 31 times, the most ever. A truly great franchise.

1. Pittsburgh Steelers - BS 138

Appropriately, the team with the most Super Bowl wins is easily the highest scoring BS team. The Steelers have an impressive 6 wins against just 2 losses in the Super Bowl. They've accumulated 33 winning seasons and 28 trips to the playoffs. Only 13 losing seasons mar this franchise's stellar resume.

I hope you all enjoyed the list! I made the formula without any idea how exactly it would turn out, but I have to say I think it did ok. Maybe a few things to quibble about here and there, but overall I'd say it did a pretty good job of ranking the franchises.

Actually I'm not ridiculously offended with Broncos at 4. I was expecting 3 but the Pats have certainly lived in the SB lately.

The Packers have the 3rd highest win percentage in the NFL and he has them 8th with his formula and that seems a bit off. Steelers funny enough are only 13th in NFL win percentage but ranked #1.

I think these types of things will always lead to debate.

Good job. That was a ton of work and you'll never please everybody. I had the top teams right from my earlier guess.

Well, that was the idea. It's the offseason after all.

Packers are actually 7th according to this but I do get what you are saying. They are hurt a bit by a lack of Super Bowl appearances. They seem to go on very long droughts of not seeing the big game and then have a couple of great years in a row. Yes I would have a couple of issues with this list as I would have a few times higher or lower but for the most part I thought this worked out close to how I would rank them.

By the way, I got the numbers from Pro Football Reference, and I tried to copy them as accurately as possible, but I'm not above making a mistake. So if anyone gets curious about any of the teams and checks my numbers, if you find a mistake please let me know and I'll correct it.
