It’s quite the conundrum, do you give up a much needed #1 pick for what looks like a proven player and perhaps damage the teams financial structure going forward OR do you let Howie try again to make the best pick at #21??
Either way there potential negative consequences.
I’m not sure what is best because either could work or not.

From Joe Giglio: 4 moves Eagles should make to complete offseason.

This sounds lie a great plan. I do think that it will take more than 2 #2's t get him though. Interesting.
Giglio is just another voice and one that I personally don’t agree with the majority of the time. Flacco is toast. Perriman is an acceptable signing. Yannick, if not outrageously costly is a welcome move but the Eagles must draft at least 2 quality WR’s. They must also address LB, OL and RB depth and the DB’s. Giving up draft capital is risky but with Howie at the helm drafting is also risky. Ugh

25 years old, in his prime, 62 games started and 37.5 sacks in his first 4 years in the league. THAT is exactly the type of player you trade a 1st round pick for. I wish our own 1st round pick from a couple of years ago would get his ass going and start producing like that.

If Barnett was worth paying we'd have tied up the money on him.

This doesn't hurt our cap in any way. It only hurts the loss of the draft pick, but you hope your draft picks turn into players as good as Ngakoue anyway.

Oh and there is also the matter of Howie overpaying players and giving bad contracts. He is a numbers guy and that is all he is.

I disagree. this kid is scheduled to make $18m this year. If acquired they're going to have to pay him and resign him for at least that much. Between Cox ($17mm), Ngaouke ($18mm+), Hargrove($13mm), Jackson($10mm), Graham (@$6mm) you now have 25% of your cap tied up in the 5 players on the defensive line. That looks like something the cowgirls would do.

The Eagles have some young players at End who can still break out … Genard Avery, Shareef Miller, Josh Sweat, Daeshon Hall, Joe Ostman (coming back from injury) … on top of Derek Barnett who still has upside. Any one of these guys are capable to taking the next step and surprising in Camp/Preseason. The only way I see us trading for Yannick is if we can package Alshon in the trade and keep our 1st this year. I think at this point we go with what we have at DL, plus a pick or two in the draft as well … but not likely very early.

Good, should be 25+%. Nothing is more important than DLine, besides QB, and we already have a QB. Graham and Cox aren't 24 years old, Ngakoue is.

What's your plan to have a top DE over the next 5 years???

Agholor signed with the Raiders.

Eagles signed Will Parks, CB, from Denver, and Jatavis Brown, LB, from Chargers.

All are one year deals.

It's not worked for anyone else, but this time it's different?

Same as everyone else's. Draft one, develop one, sign one.

EDIT: Parks is primarily a Safety, but has played some CB.

Duke, this is Elinore Tomlinson. Who would you rather have?

Funny, even though Shenault had another minor injury, I think he'll still be a 2nd round [pick, and hope we still get him. Stay tuned!

Very happy we got Parks! He's a young guy that Denver used all over the field (FS, SS, LB, slot Corner, ST's), but his best position is Safety. He should slot in nicely as the #3 Safety behind McLeod and Mills. He turned down 3 better offers to sign with his hometown Eagles. Still just 25 he has upside; concentrating more at just one position instead of being shifted all over the field. We signed him for next to nothing ...

Broncos fan here - as Rey just said you are going to be happy with Parks. A guy I wish Denver had prioritized higher than they obviously did. Maybe not a starter, but will play a lot and contribute. Also a great guy in the locker room and in the community.

Philly’s gain, Denver’s loss.

Draft - Barnett
Sign - Graham
Develop - Sweat
Draft/Develop - Miller
Trade - Avery

We did all that and now we still need one. Preferably a 25 year old stud that will kick ass here for 5 years.

...and primarily a special teamer.

Wrong. Started 7 games last year and was one of their more consistent players in the secondary. With an expanded role he has a good chance to beat out Mills for the starting SS spot Week 1
