18 year old kids fuck up. There's at least some cases where you can justify giving them a second chance.
We will have to disagree.. it isn't Gainesville.. it's the hood rats that happen to have athletic talent.. the metro areas around the state have larger areas of low socioeconomic status which happens to favor their hood rat mentality.. that doesn't change just because they relocate.. Miami/tampa/jax/ orlando all of them have large areas of the gang mentality .. but they have sports going for them.. I can't imagine that a coach would have supreme knowledge about each of his players and exactly the kind of home life a kid has..He may be aware of some things but not everything..and sometimes kids are just stupid enough make poor decisions...this isn't just a Gainesville problem btw.. this can be anywhere
Depends on the locals and police too. If the program is that important to the community, then these young men don't get in as much trouble. That's not really the case though. Saban isn't having these issues at Bama (and didn't really at MSU or LSU), Swinney isn't having these issues at Clemson, Meyer isn't having these issues at OSU (and didn't at Utah or BGSU), and those are the 3 best coaches in the nation by a wide margin right now. In fact, if you look around the college football landscape it's really only a few programs who seem to routinely have these sort of issues anymore, and Florida stands out above all others.
I disagree. Zero tolerances means severe consequences. Frequently considered unfair punishment.LOL no it doesn't. It means you face punishment for your mistakes commensurate to what you did.
LOL no it doesn't. It means you face punishment for your mistakes commensurate to what you did. If the video tape had actually proved Hyde had assaulted the girl, he would've been permanently gone and you know that. Outside of the Barrett (barely) DUI, he hasn't had any major players get in trouble in years, so what are you even talking about? You're looking through maize colored glasses here, come on.
dude.. he's an asshole.. I met him several times.. Love him as a coach but he's an assBite your tongue!
If you can sign me up for 4 players in trouble in 6 years, I am using permanent ink. Compared to what went on before Urban got here, that's great.Bradley Roby arrested for a fight at a bar.
Tracy Sprinkle arrested for cocaine possession
Carlos Hyde arrested for ‘flipping a girl off across her face’
JT Barrett arrested for ‘barely’ getting a DUI.
Zach Smith has the cops called how many times since he has worked for Meyer.
The person kicked off the team is Bri’onte Dunn, at the time, wasn’t even charged with anything. Meyer calls it ‘violation of team rules’.
I’m not looking thru maize anything — I’ve defended Meyer and said he should keep his job over the Zach Smith fiasco.
You are literally downplaying everything. JT was barely drunk. Carlos Hyde only flipped off the girl, even though they have slow motion video of it. Meyer is a tremendous coach — but the whole, Meyer is a disciplinarian is ridiculous. He does the same thing as he did at Florida. Lightly punishes the top players who get in trouble and kick off the lesser players. Hell — go look on 247sports — I just found an article stating my opinion almost verbatim.

The worst part of this whole thing, imo, is that it caused KKK to leave the PF and expand his shitposting to over here. Urban should be fired for that alone .
So, basically, what you are telling me is that Brett McMurphy is .....
wait for it....
wait for it .............
FAKE NEWS!
Because it is Meyer’s obligation by titleIX laws to report all suspected violations. Had he said the appropriate thing back during the BigTen media days, this would be nothing. But he tried to cover it up and now he’s paying the price.I haven’t been following these threads so if it’s been said already my bad
A football coach shouldn’t be expected to be some kind of guardian of morality
That this is even an issue for Urban shows out of touch I am with public sentiment. Domestic abuse has been illegal for as long as I’ve been alive. If an assistant coach beat his wife and it can proven he should face the legal consequences. But wtf does it have to do with football? And why is another man being expected to answer for it?
I get that it’s branding and money and all that but this is way beyond an overreach.

He shouldn’t be fired or even suspended but he absolutely deserves to be ridiculed.
FFS this is not a Title IX issue. How many times does it have to be spelled out?Because it is Meyer’s obligation by titleIX laws to report all suspected violations. I am not sure whether the victim has to be a student/employee or if the fact that Smith is an employee is cause enough. It’s like saying Joe Paterno had no obligation to report Sandusky to the AD because the victims weren’t students, in my opinion.Doesn't Title 9 protection only cover students and employees?
Perhaps we need to move onto UNC and 13 players being suspended for selling Nike Jordans. At least this is a violation and something worthy to discuss, no?
