Examining the worst first-round NFL draft pick for each team since 1990

IMO, Aaron Curry was a terrible pick but Dan McGwire defined an entire era of football for the Seahawks.

Some I don't agree with for the other teams.

Coryett for the Colts - He wasn't great but he wasn't nearly that bad.
Morris Claiborne - Certainly a bust but there are plenty of worse choices.
How is anyone worse than Dimitrius Underwood for the Vikings?

The Broncos I would say is spot on. No 1st round pick gave the Broncos less production that Jarvis Moss. He had one incredible game in college and that is about it and the Broncos used a 1st round pick off of just one game. He always did look good when the pads were not on but as soon as the pads went on the kid became just about worthless as a football player.

lmao

dan mcgwire, all nearly 7 feet of him...back when QB's were supposed to be taller than lineman. weird premise.

you forgot kelly stouffer...6th overall by the cardinals, you guys got him in a trade after he pouted for a contract and sat out his rookie year.

technically, i think...counts for 2 teams.

Greg Ellis. Definitely not the worst player, but taking him over Randy Moss was just idiotic

Well you should tank your stars you aren't a Knick fan. You would have to review every draft since 1990 to find a GOOD draft pick.

I remember a lot of folks assuming that the Cowboys were going to take him and being a little surprised when they didn't.

I am a Knick fan but it's 4th on my list of sports. Frederick Weis comes to mind for them

Williamson was bad but it was the front office just trying to replace Moss and reaching, I don't know if another team touches him that early. Ponder was terrible but we again reached because we needed a QB. When these picks were made I think 90% of the people that watch football knew they were terrible picks.

Underwood was Denny Green thinking he was a genius and could get something out of the nut. Oh how I hated Dennis Green!

Of the ones listed I would go with Alexander because the very next pick was Warren Sapp.

How Darrin Nelson didn't make the list leaves me speechless!

Andre Wadsworth was a decent pick, but knee injuries derailed his career. And lets not forget that the Cardinals could have selected Ryan Leaf @ #2 but instead traded the pick for picks #3 & #33 in 1998 & #8 in 1999. What makes his pick worse is the players who were drafted after him.

Personally, I think Wendell Bryant is the worst pick in that time frame. But seeing as there was only one great player drafted after him, his pick doesn't look as bad.

Levi Brown is right up there as well, just because the pick should have been Peterson.

Andre Ware at #7 overall gets my vote we went to our only nfc championship that year we could have really used a contributor. Charles Rogers was bad to but more because of his clavicle getting broken twice and Millen being an idiot.

I think Raiders own this thread, but every team team is littered with busts. It's the nature of the draft. Kind of hard to trump Jamarcus Russell, I don't even think Leaf does that and that was huge.

Mike Mamula was a bad pick but is not close to the worst Eagles pick. Mamula actually played OK for a few years, even if he was never worthy of his selection. Guys like Jon Harris or Danny Watkins easily top Mamula for worst Philly picks.

He's up there, but Leaf still takes the cake IMO. Russell was MAJORLY overhyped by draft analysts and Al Davis had no clue how to draft players. There's no other team in their right mind that would've taken Russell #1. Davis got swayed by a bunch of analysts freaking out about Russell's arm and the rest is history...

Leaf was up there with Manning in terms of prospect value and was considered one of the 'once in a decade' QBs. Russell was not even CLOSE to being considered that yet both busted equally (could argue Leaf even moreso).

Not sure why people argue Leaf vs. Russell. They are both probably top 5 but the gap between them is HUGE.
