6 times out of 16 years Seabass was over 83%, 7 times he has been at 81% or lower. the other 3 were in the 81.01% to 82.9% Range.

Why did i go with 83% cutoff? well if i went with say a probowl level cutoff thats really not fair right? 90% ? so i went down from average( 85% ) to below average ( 83%). Giving him More chances to have just below average seasons added to his best.

He is what he is, a career below average 80% FG kicker that has a very long career for really no reason other than having a history of a strong leg even though i am willing to bet that around 50% of the kickers in the NFL could out kick him now.

And like it or not, he has cost the hawks 2 games this season so far.

Well, I do believe he missed 2 XPs before that -- both against SF (one blocked) -- but I'm just saying the conditions in that stadium that day (especially early) were not good for kicking....just my observation from being at the game.

I hate the new XP as well. I have no idea why the league would want more games impacted by kickers. If they think the old one was a waste of time, then just make it 7 points (unless you want to go for 2) and head to commercial. The star of the show should be the 80 yard TD drive to tie the game, not whether a specialist makes a kick.

That's right.. he has missed a couple others.

Agree completely. I like the idea of having a 2 pt option (meaning a 6 pt touchdown if the conversion fails). But if you want 7, just give them 7. The less impact on a game kickers have, the better.

Bingo. I can't understand why the league cannot figure this out. Right now the only thing worse than having to worry about an XP is after every single big play I have to look back at the LOS (if I'm in the stadium) to see if a flag is down to ding us on a holding penalty away from the play that will take it all away.

Well? are some of you ready to admit i was right? For those suffering with his stinkness kicking, just assume he is going to miss every kick. This way when he makes it you get to feel good, if he misses it's what you expected. Lol really keeps my blood pressure in check.

He's better than last years debacle .... I think he's capable of hitting a game winner if needed in the post season, he has a clutch factor about him even though he's older...

Wow, "some people" around here really have a stiffy for getting credit for being "right" don't they? Too funny. Maybe we need to start keeping a ledger? Throw 10 pounds of crap against the wall and beat your chest when something sticks just isn't all that impressive to me, but maybe I'm the weird one.

Seabass has missed 5 kicks. If you're paying attention to what is going on around the league this year, missed kicks aren't exactly a rare bird. Here is a list of kickers who have missed 4 or 5 kicks: Justin Tucker, Ka'imi Fairbairn, Matt Prater, Greg Zuerlein, Adam Vinatieri, Stephen Gostkowski, Jake Elliott, Brett Maher, Brandon McManus, Stephen Hauschka, Randy Bullock, Caleb Sturgis. Some pretty good company on that list.

Missed more than 5: Brett Maher, Cody Parky, Dan Bailey (remember when we were dumb for not signing him and dumping Seabass?), Mason Crosby, Chris Boswell.

Perspective is a good thing.

Seabass is sitting at 80% right now on all kicks. Even with the botched 30-something yarder last night, he's 85% on kicks under 50 yards. Pretty much an acceptable level and where most reasonable people placed the definition of success. Is it great? No. But it's also not a disaster like we had last year when you could pin at least 2 and maybe 3 losses directly on missed kicks.

I think some of the animosity towards Seabass is that he seems to miss some "easy" kicks. That is if you believe any kicks can be easy. But he has missed some close ones, and he's missed a few extra points too.

He has missed more lately than earlier in the year, for sure. But we shouldn't be fooled into thinking he's been bad. He's been "ok" and certainly not a far cry different than most of the other kickers in the league this year. I don't think we are to the point where we should be declaring victory if we predicted this signing would hurt the team. It hasn't. I expected "good enough", and that's pretty much what we've had so far.

I agree. I was saying the same thing to the wife last night when she asked why we don't have a better kicker. I told her it's not that easy to find a better kicker nowadays. Seabass has been serviceable, but I'd be lying if I said he doesn't make me nervous every time he lines for anything 40 yards or deeper. He's had a great career but the guy watched the same cartoons on TV as a kid that I did and I'm old as dirt.

I give him kudos for playing through having his legs taken out on the field goal attempt. Yeah, the kicked off with Dickson twice, but his legs couldn't have been feeling on that good.

I think pretty much every fan is nervous for their kicker this year. That's sorta my point (which I know you are not arguing against). Even Justin Tucker has missed 4 kicks (though he's attempted many more than most). It really has been the year of the missed kick. Some still lament letting Hauschka go (the guy right behind at the game last night, most recently), but he's missed 5 himself and is sitting at only 82% on the year (with a missed XP).

I think the only legit criticism right now on having Seabass is that we had a chance to have Jason Myers instead, who is at 91%....but he's also missed 3 XPs. Of course, Myers was also a 73% guy last year.

It all takes me right back to: he's been "good enough" with no clearly better options out there at the time we had to decide.

I don't disagree with that except for using Tucker as an example of someone who has also missed kicks. He missed two yesterday but one was from 56 yards and the other one (65 yard attempt) would have set the all time NFL record. So he gets a pass from me.

Fair. There are plenty of other examples to choose from, so my bad on that one.

As talented of a kicker that Dickson is, I would bet that he could kick field goals if givin the chance, not sure he would want to however.

This off season train Dickson to be the K and free up a position on the 53 for another OL man.
I think that is not likely to happen but very possible if it does.
Who here doubts Dickson could K the ball?

I see what you're saying but what if he get's hurt? Then we need to fill two positions..

I think we would probably all agree that we are going to see heightened competition at kicker next year. Maybe even draft a guy (the kid from Florida??) based on how unafraid this FO showed itself to be about drafting specialists this past spring. Even with Janikowski hitting the finish line with what I think most would call a passing grade (definitely not an A, but also certainly not an F), there's a high probability it's his only season here.

Seattle is 25th in FG%, i guess some of you are fine with below average. 93% on XP is also lower than what Walsh was in 2017 ( 97% )oof.

Seabass hurt his back not his leg fyi. He landed on the guys cleat and instantly grabbed for his back. Watch the play again. We all know a bad back in many ways is worse than a bad peg.
