Well, all of the teams below us in the standings were sellers, so I expect to make the playoffs here. Finishing 9th would be a tragedy.

It's time to beat teams like the Pens and Isles.

Well, looks like whatever offers the Flyers received weren't worth giving up on the playoffs for.

The Jake and MDZ injuries really hurt in the ability to make moves that didn't bring bodies back. IMHO that was the bottom line. If Hexy could have made a move that didn't mean taking money back so he could bring someone up from the Phantoms, then he might have pulled the trigger.

Yep and if you have any chance for playoffs you can't deal all of your depth away for nothing. I mentioned this a week or so ago.

30 Thoughts: Wrapping up the NHL trade deadline - Sportsnet.ca

3. Ottawa’s Bryan Murray admitted he tried to pry Drouin loose. Don’t know the potential return, but the Lightning spent a lot of time scouting Boston College centre Colin White, taken 21st overall in the 2015 Draft. A few sources said not to discount Philadelphia, even though the Flyers don’t get mentioned a lot. They’ve got a lot of good, young prospects.

Now that the Flyers won't be making any trades until after the playoffs...who will be moved? who will be allowed to walk for free? who might be back?

The biggest unknown is going to be where the Flyers land when the dust settles. If they make the playoffs their picks move down. (yes, we all know that) Does Hextall move player rights with current picks to move up? Is there a package play made to clear out short term money players to bring in picks?

Somehow I think that the draft (and the few days leading up) will be more full of moves at least for the Flyers.

I just don't want to see a regression next season. To me, there would be no excuse for it. We should be able to clear enough cap and roster space in the offseason in addition to what we've already done to bring in more talent. Also, there are about half a dozen younger guys on this team that should improve with another year under them. Plus, we may be starting a couple more elite level rookies next season.

Right now the Flyers have $62.9 mil pegged for next season with 10 forwards, 5 dmen, and 2 goalies.

Bettman estimated a cap increase of $3 million for next year back in December, to $74.4 mil. Giving the Flyers $11.5 mil to spend.

I don't see them bringing back Medvedev, Ganger, or White. Gudas is a question mark at this point, i think they try to move his rights at the draft.

I say Konecny (925k) and Provorov (925k) make the team next year. 9.7 mil left.

No way they dont resign Schenn at this point. He's playing way too well. Reading around with some comparables, I expect he'll resign at around 4.75. 4.9 left.

Cousins IMO has proven he belongs in a bottom 6 role. 1.25 mil tops. 3.7 left.

Lots of people think they'll buyout Umberger. He's due $4.5 mil in salary for 1 more year after this year. According to the CBA, he's owed 2/3 (26+ years old) over twice the duration. $3 mil hit next year and the year after. Savings of $1.5mil next year. 5.2 left

Looking at the available Free Agents this summer, for 5.2 mil I think you're looking at David Perron or Kyle Okposo in terms of major upgrades available. I don't think either of those guys are worth putting yourselves in a tight cap. 5.2 left.

On defense there really isn't anyone available that catches my eye. Maybe Kris Russel. But given the Flyers situation on defense I don't get in to a bidding war with the NHL and end up with Russel at 5 mil for 6 years. 5.2 left.

Given my lack of desire to spend that 5.2, i don't buyout Umberger. 3.7 left.

I think i look for a veteran, defense first, dman to use a 6/7 dman. Perhaps Tom Gilbert for something like 2 mil? 1.7 left. 13 forwards, 7 dmen, 2 goalies.

Schenn - Giroux - Simmonds
Konecny - Couturier - Voracek
Laughton - Cousins - Raffl
VDV - PEB - Read
Umberger

Streit - Schultz
MDZ - Provorov
MacDonald - Gostisbehere

Or, you resign Weal and buyout Umberger. That would probably be about a wash cap space wise.

A line of Konecny - Cousins - Laughton would be on the small side but fun to watch. I can see bringing Gudas back and having A Mac fill the 7 role.

Does the next seasons 62.9 figure include Jakes big salary increase?

Mm a good point on Vinny. It does include everything mentioned, but that would be an additional 2.25 if/when Vinny retires. With the Umberger buyout that could put you at 7.5 mil in space. You could do some damage with 7.5 mil in space..

Milan Lucic (no thanks)
David Backes
Andrew Laad
Loui Eriksson

One of them could be had at that number. Then of course Okposo or Perron.

You could realistically ice a

Schenn.Giroux.Simmonds
Okposo.Couturier.Voracek
Laughton.Cousins.Konecny
Read.PEB.Raffl
VDV

MDZ.Provorov
Streit.Schultz
AMac.Ghost
Gudas

Mason
Neuvirth

Lineup and have pretty decent cap space left over. That's a very competitive team IMO.
