Basically how I feel. Not a knock on Jones, either. Still think he has a very good chance of being a stud, but right now Columbus on potential for a #1D while Nashville just added a #1C to a very good team. For what its worth I really like Johansen.

Obviously to a much lesser extent, but I saw mentions of how similar it is to the Pronger/Shanahan. Pronger wasn't how Chris Pronger at the time of the trade and I'd say banking on his potential worked out.

If I were Nashville, I would've happily given Jones for Johansen straight-up too. The Jackets should've asked for a pick and a prospect as well. They must've been desperate because they got taken here.

Seth Jones may want a huge raise in the offseason while Johansen has another season at a great price for his talent level. They will both eventually be RFA's, so there's little risk on either side.

Do you think if Hextall knew that it would only take a player of Seth Jones like ability he would've traded one of our young dmen to get Johansen.

I'm sure he would have thought about it but I think it would have been a different situation than with Nashville - Nashville's trying to win a cup or go real deep in the playoffs while the Flyers are building more towards the future - I think any move they make is probably predicated on being better next year and beyond, not with the intention of trying to make a run this year

I think he would've if he could've, but I seriously doubt that Columbus was willing to do that within their own division. With us, Johansen could've potentially come back and haunted them for years. I believe he's only 23.

I also don't know that the Flyers have a prospect quite the quality of Seth Jones. I like the prospect pool a lot (obviously), but Seth Jones is probably a bit step up from what the Flyers have.

I also don't understand that trade from the BJ's perspective. 1st line centers are tough to come by and they had a young one. I don't think I would've done that without a top notch offensive prospect coming the other way.

I was thinking that too. I guess we'll really find out what Seth Jones can be in Columbus, because he will probably be given every opportunity to be a number one guy. Either way, I think we all agree that Johansen is already a number one, so this seems like a step back for the Jackets and I'm good with that...lol

I was hearing a lot of talk about Seth Jones is not as good as people thought he would be and just assumed one of our prospects SanHeim\Ghost might be just as good if not better.

Who do you think they would accept from us at this time so that they get a good deal and we are buying low
How about a 1st and Cousins. Throw in Hagg if it gets it done.

Ummmm...maybe I'm in the minority here, but I don't see the great desire to trade for a play with 40 points (6g/34a) in 90 career games that clearly has a me first attitude. I get he is young is talented, but if he doesn't have the drive to work through being sent down to improve some things I really can't see him jiving with Hakstol and Hextall. Spoiled professional players are pet peeve of mine. You don't like be sent down to AHL? Bust your ass and prove you belong in the NHL and produce when there.

I was thinking that maybe the stern teachings of the tough love Hextall and the glares of Hakstol would be a perfect fit for a me first guy and to show him the right way to act and lift his game in Philly. The 40 points in 90 games don't bother me because that's a bad year for him and that's probably a beast of a year for Laughton while Hagg I would gamble giving up because we have more prospects than we can bring up on this team. IMO

How do we know that's a bad year for him? Basing off of potential and junior stats? I just don't like the idea of taking another teams cancer. I'd rather wait out the year for Konecny.

Even if its not a bad year and its his norm its still better than we get from Laughton and when Konecny is ready we will have them both. Just a thought not imperative that we make a trade.

I hear ya. But down the road Laughton should be exponentially cheaper and a solid two way player on the 3rd line. I would assume that if you bring in Drouin and move Laughton, Schenn would have to switch back to center.

Its probably pointless anyway since TB is not going to trade him to us. I say he probably goes to the west.
