Even to get rid of A-Mac's contract I don't give up a prospect on Hagg's level, certainly not higher. IMO that's getting ahead of yourself. The Flyers shouldn't really be considering adding much salary in the next offseason or two anyway, it's just bringing up young guys on cheap contracts to fill in for the rentals (LSchenn, Gagner, Gudas, BSchenn, Raffl etc.)

The Vinny and AMac contracts are bad, but I don't think they're getting in the way of the Flyers future at all.

Ghost, Sanheim, Morin, Proverov, Manning all ahead of Hagg on the ladder to success with this team. I didn't even mention Alt who even with him too. How many 1st and 2nd year defenseman do you think we would have on one team? We cant bring them all up and if Hagg has to be added to get rid of Macdonald contract I say do it right now.

But as Chy said earlier nobody is going to take on that contract if we only have Hagg to entice it and I wouldn't go any higher than that.

Even as well as the Flyers have drafted, I don't think its a sure bet they all pan out. I'd be very surprised if the Flyers had

Provorov.Sanheim
Ghost.Morin
Hagg.Alt
Manning

at any point as their d-corp. at least a couple of them probably won't pan out and could possibly get traded. but I don't do that know, because you don't know which of them will pan out. I also don't think that highly of Manning, he's a AHL/NHL swingman at best IMO.

plus, say that top 4 all pans out and the Flyers have two 'first pairs' at some point in the future. could you imagine the return they could get for an RFA top pair defensemen? teams would be begging to take MacDonald to make the salary work for the trade while they give up a top 6 forward +.

By the time we find out if all of our young Dmen pan out Mac's contract will be over.

Holy shit!!

Mally and I both scored 55.8 points last night in fantasy and Jeff Skinner (9 goals in last 6 games) was still a free agent...

I've fixed this issue...lol

Agreed

It's nice to dream about what could be, but out of the four or five d-men the Flyers have, only 2 or 3 might pan out - Ghost looks good so far and I really think Ivan Provorov and Travis Sanheim should be good but I'm not sure about Sam Morin or Robert Hagg

Flyers need to keep stocking the cupboard because hanging your hat on only 4 or 5 prospects is a risky proposition

The Flyers CAN NOT trade prospects as bait. That makes trading more difficult but not impossible. That said, a deal like the Grossman deal, where there were picks as part of the deal and Gagner came back as part of that deal, that could be something.

EX (and this is all hypothetical). Team A wants a player with 3 years left at 4 mil. Their internal budget means they have to shed some money to absorb that term/cap hit. The Flyers take back a player with shorter term but some if not all of the same cap hit and the two teams exchange a mid round pick (our 3rd for their 3rd). The Flyers shed a couple years of term for equal money for one year. The pick swap just moves you up or down a few picks. The Grossman deal was pretty similar to this. So was the Umberger trade. The other ingredient is not so much the cap hit as the actual salary. AMac is a bigger issue because not just his cap hit but his actual salary is increasing each year. Vinnies is going down but the cap hit remains the same.

Regardless, the salary cap has as much to do with making trades and turning teams around as scouting, drafting and player development. Deals get made because the cap friendly contracts (either bringing a team up to the floor or keeping them under the ceiling) are more attractive than making deals for players who are equally skilled or maybe even a better fit, but with less attractive contracts.

Johanson is having a lot of trouble playing for Torterella. Would we be interested in trying to get him and if we were what do you think it would take to get him. I think B Schenn would be enough.

No chance that would be enough

He would be a good fit with a change of scenery but in no way that is enough to get a deal done

What would you think it would take to get it done?

Columbus needs a top d-man in the worst way so definitely one of the Flyers top defensive prospects and then probably Brayden Schenn and maybe a pick

Don't want any part of Johanson. Not straight up and certainly not in a deal involving a prospect, a pick and a roster player.

That price would be a little steep for my taste, but I would be interested in Johansen.

I'd rather look for some wingers though. I think the Flyers can be competitive with G and Coots as the top 6 centers, just have to add some difference makers on the wing (and hope that Jake returns to being that)

I still lean away from trading the top D prospects. Just me.

Hagg to me is a 6th prospect so to me that's not really trading away a prospect since we cant have them all in the NHL together.

Take it with a grain of salt considering we don't know how credible this guy is. I wouldn't shop Simmonds, especially considering we are rolling and in the playoff hunt, but the return he could bring in certainly tempts me. I'd bet the house we would definitely end up with one of McCarron, Scherbak, Juulsen, Beaulieu, or this year's 1st. McCarron would be the Wayne Simmonds of the future if he does pan out.

Yeah I don't see it - I think there could be better offers out there anyway - Beaulieu's a good d-man and McCarron is a good prospect but the Flyers need Simmer right now and I don't think the Flyers make trades involving any significant players at this point

Also, with the Habs sliding right now, it makes sense that rumors circulate - but that doesn't mean they're legitimate
