The trade of the off-season was getting rid of that albatross Pronger contract along with Grossman to the Coyotes for a pick and Gagne. Great move by Hextall.
Report: Blues in trade talks about Kevin Shattenirk | FOX SportsFlyers and Rangers have had conversations with the Blues about Shattenkirk.
Not saying we should make a trade but if we did we would get a proven top pair defenseman instead of hoping we have a top pair defenseman coming up.lots of chatter about that the past few days, but the Blues and Shattenkirk's agent are both denying it. Obviously they have to do that, but still worth noting.
It doesn't make much sense to me. Why would the Blues trade a young, bon-a-fide top pair dman on a good contract? And IMO it wouldn't make much sense for the Flyers to give up a ton to get him. Just be patient. At this point I'm 100% convinced the Flyers have someone who will be as good, or better, than Shattenkirk in their prospect pool. It could be any one of the 5, but you have to believe one of them will pan out. Just have to be patient.

I'm not looking to make this deal However im just pointing out that the article said the Flyers were trying to do this deal and if they did we would be getting a top tier proven defenseman with a mid level salary as opposed to hoping/wishing/praying that one of our defenseman is a top tier player. But then you are gutting other areas of your roster and you're going to have to pay Shattenkirk at some point - Hexy worked his ass off to create cap space and now you're going to use it up on one player already? They're not even at the point where they're done plunging out the old parts of this team, they need to get rid of A-Mac and Vinny before looking at taking on more salary - Jake's deal has to be signed too and once you do that then you have to account that into the salary cap

Agree with this 100%. Not to mention the need for the Flyers to have some ELCs on their roster in order to make moves for the final piece or two to make a serious run a the cup in a couple years. You know what, a lot of teams hope and wish and pray that their young d-men end up being great - a decade ago, Chicago was hoping and praying that Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook would be two of their mainstays on the blueline and they've exceeded those expectations - it happens all around the league - you can't trade for every proven player - a lot of players who end up being proven are guys that teams hope, wish and pray that they can be top tier - it's just how it is - the Flyers don't need to make a trade right now to get immediate help, they need to start giving these young players a chance to plant a seed on this team and give them the life that they've desperately needed
Again Im not looking to make this trade but for every Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook there are dozens and dozens and more dozens of defenseman that don't reach anywhere near their potential and never make all star team (see Luke Schenn). Shattenkirk would be a real nice piece in Philly for the right price but I don't expect him to be here anytime soon.
From a Blackhawks blogger:
There was a rumor last night (July 2nd) that the Philadelphia Flyers had an offer on the table for Sharp that included winger Matt Read and more. No word on how many total assets were involved or the total salary impact for both clubs. Or if Sharp would even waive to go back to Philadelphia, where he began his career.
I wasn't interested because I would be so mad if we got him back and he wasn't good for us and Read goes over to Chicago and puts up Sharp numbers. I would feel like we got doubly screwed.I mentioned the idea of trading for Sharp in another thread. It doesn't seem like anyone else is interested, but he is probably the best scoring left winger available and that's what we really need on this team.
Some insight into why the Blues may be looking to deal Shattenkirk:
“Pay him now or lose him later”.
Blues GM Doug Armstrong isn’t out of the woods right now regarding his 2015-16 salary cap. He has only $2.4 million dollars remaining in his cap budget and still hasto re-sign RFAs Magnus Paajarvi and Jani Hakanpaa.
Looming in the Armstrong’s windshield next season is potential collisions with captain David Backes and newly acquired Troy Brouwer, who are set to become unrestricted free agents. Slick kid forward Jaden Schwartz will be a restricted free agent . Schwartz will earn $2.35 million this season, however, is in line for a big pay raise if he duplicates the career high 63 point plateau that he accomplished this past season.
Trade rumors continue to swirl around defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk who has two years remaining on his four year $17 million contract. Shattenkirk is highly coveted due to his skill set, experience and his $4.25 million cap hit. He has two years remaining on his deal which makes him all the more attractive to would be trade partners.
Might Armstrong trade Shattenkirk to make salary cap space for Backes, Brouwer and Schwartz? Perhaps Armstrong will trade Backes to create cap room ro re-sign his RFAs and UFAs
