I still find Edmonton an interesting trade partner but I am really not sure what/who to go or bring back.
Edmonton is in worse shape than the Flyers on the blueline. As much as Holmgren overpaid MacDonald look at what Edmonton HAD to pay to get FA's to come there. It was a pretty open secret that Edmonton coveted Coburn but getting a 1 and conditional from TB was too good to pass on. Now, do the Flyers have someone that would still interest the Oilers on defense? I think they do...Grossmann, Luke Schenn or MacDonald could be of interest in that they are all legitimate NHL defensemen. They can all play 20+ minutes a game (Grossmann is better suited playing 18 +/-). I am not going to try to sell them as saviour type players when they are expendable here. But to the Oilers they are step up players and none of the contracts is a deal breaker in the payroll scheme of the Oilers.
Time will tell.

Now that Bob Nicholson and Peter Chiarelli are there, I'm not sure the Oilers are going to screw it up that bad by trading for guys like that

I would love for this to happen but I would think that even Edmonton is not that dumb enough to take on the McDonald contract. Hopefully though they would take Gross or Schenn. What do you think we would get back for either Gross or Schenn?

I read an article that said Dallas may have interest in L. Schenn for a pick. Did not, however, speculate what that pick may be.

Hopefully a second but I would think Dallas would offer a third.

A 2nd or 3rd would be a nice move for us. Open some more cap and a spot on the back end (which would take us down to 7 if MDZ signs).

holy shit. Brandon Sutter for Sean Couturier, really? REALLY?

how the hell do people like that get paid to write about hockey and we can't?

if I write an article that the flyers should trade luke schenn for alex ovechkin you think i'll get picked up?
This article gave me such a laugh somebody was walking by my office asked me if I was alright. What a joke!

For the right price they will. If somebody is willing to give up a great deal, why not. Hextall will unload somebody.
I think Hextall at this point has no choice but to get rid of someone probably 2 defenseman. I just hope we can get something half decent in return as we all know our current defense doesn't have much value in the trade market right now.

Not that this matters at all since it won't happen but I might as well post it.

McKenzie: On free agents, trades and more - Article - TSN

Kessel's limited NTC is believed to include eight teams he can be traded to. Prior to the trade deadline, TSN reported those eight teams were believed to be: Boston; Chicago; Los Angeles; Minnesota; Montreal; New York Rangers; Philadelphia; and Pittsburgh.

Don't remember seeing this before the deadline. Interesting we'd be on his list.

I could see the Flyers being on Kessel's list because he would not be "the" player. He would be on a team that competes but won't be called upon to carry the team and provide the leadership on or off the ice. I can't see the Flyers ever having interest in Kessel, but that is another story....

Draft is getting closer as the Cup Finals are winding down. There are remarkably few Flyers rumors bubbling which is a new thing. Hexy has locked things down tight.

That doesn't mean we can't speculate. The Flyers have as many as 9 NHL defensemen under contract. All should be seen as potential trade bait. Obviously Grossmann, L Schenn lead the list because they may not fit into Hakstol's systems and they are both in the final year of 3+ million dollar contracts. Then there is MacDonald. His contract may be potable to the right team but he might be a better fit with Hakstol's system. Streit's contract makes him a possible trade bait, but he is more valuable on the PP and is a serviceable 2nd/3rd pairing dman.
MDZ still is not signed but will be, it is just a matter of time. His play in his own zone is okay and his offensive upside is very real. He could make Streit expendable inseason...

All in all, I could see almost anyone on the blue line being moved. Same for B Schenn. I really could even see a package of both Schenn's if the offer was good enough.

Oh, and don't be fooled. Good enough is a couple of picks this year and a couple of conditional picks. I have no misconceptions. Both brothers are good but are not the All Stars they were hyped to be. Both have holes in their games that in the right role can be over looked. B Schenn showed he is a decent 2nd line player at Center and RW. L Schenn can kill penalties and play a respectable 2nd pairing lockdown role with the right partner. Asking him to do more is asking too much. His game never developed because of how he was handled in Toronto. That should be a lesson.

But...I would make trades. I want more draft picks. I see too many possible chances to add to the team and professional depth at all levels.

The thing is, his goal scoring ability and what he provides there would be a good fit for them but it's an expensive contract and there's a lot that you would have to give up for him - plus I think there are parts of his game that teams probably wouldn't be too thrilled about either

I like how the Flyers are tight lipped like the Eagles are - rumors get old after a while, you know? I just want to hear if and when they make a deal, not something that may or may not happen

I've been on the trade Mark Streit wagon not because he's not a good player but they need to cash in on him and get some real value for him - teams would be all over him because he's a strong offensive player that can make a teams power play the difference - plus it would clear some room for the young guys if they can make the team - and it gives MDZ more minutes and I think he can continue to develop into a real good offensive threat

Truthfully, I go back and forth on Brayden Schenn - for a while I wanted them to move him and then lately I've felt that they need to keep him if they can't find another center out there, but if the right deal is there, maybe something can come out of it - I think a good trade partner could be the Avalanche - they're looking to move ROR and I know he'll cash in whether it's an extension or in free agency but I think ROR's game is more well rounded and his hockey IQ is fantastic - I would package Brayden Schenn and Mark Streit for ROR and the Avs first rounder - Avs need defense desperately too and Mark Streit would really help them especially on the power play - pair him with Erik Johnson and you could have something good there

ROR would be expensive as far as getting him signed and you'd like to have more flexibility which is why keeping Brayden Schenn would be most likely the right thing to do, but I really like ROR's game and it could fit well on a team like this that needs more consistent defensive efforts - he could make the second line formidable for a change

Without a doubt I agree about making trades - I think if they can add organizational depth then it would make a big difference - they already have the two first round picks and I would be so happy if they could somehow land a third first round pick but there's lots of possibilities once the draft comes

It's a shame. I really like Kessel and feel bad about all the criticism he gets. No, he shouldn't be a team's centerpiece but that is not his fault, it is his front office's for trying to build around him. If we were closer to competing I'd love to add him but it just isn't a fit right now.
