the problem the flyers will face is they don't have very many pure rentals to sell. the contracts are too long. Schultz and Del Zotto would be the only true rentals on the blueline, everyone else has a contract that's longer than this year. Del Zotto is even RFA after this year, so I would think that would up his value a bit. Rental if you want him to be, or you can spin him off in the offseason for an asset if you don't want him.

Coburn, Schenn, and Grossmann are signed through next year. MacDonald is signed for eternity. That will hurt their trade values this season.

This years true rentals include Petry, Michalek and Sekera. For this and other reasons, if we move someone, it will probably be Grossmann.

I should add that MDZ is a true rental but this move would do nothing for the future cap.

the flyers need to work on their cap and add assets. So while MDZ doesn't help the cap next season, it does help add assets for the future (theoretically).

I am pretty sure we don't have a 2nd because of the A Mac trade. This sounds like a good draft to have a second.

The two sports are completely different - you can't make trades like that in the NHL like they do in the NBA - salary cap and how the trades work make it much more difficult in the NHL

The Sixers are doing the right thing, especially because it's the NBA and you can't be mediocre, but I don't want the Flyers doing that - they have the superstar players already, they just need the depth, and that takes a few years, but that doesn't mean they need to be trading their best players - you don't trade superstar players, teams in the NHL don't do that

Oh I am not saying trade our young guys. That I get, we are in a different position than the Sixers. Just jealous to see them acquire picks, which I am on mission for.

Actually I think the Flyers have done a good job of drafting the last few years, as long as they have picks they're good

I really like how the drafting has worked out lately which is why I want picks over players that aren't a part of the future

Everyone talks about the main defensive prospects but nobody has talked about Jesper Petterson - I think he can be a solid guy in the future too - got him as a steal

To have a 7th round pick playing in the AHL immediately is damn impressive

I'm also interested to see what Mark Alt can bring too - the depth in the system looks good now

Losing to Buffalo is just unacceptable. This season is scrapped. Hopefully Hextall can get some key picks through some trades. With some of these current contracts, it's not an easy task. It'll be interesting who goes at the TD.
