Either way, I'm guessing Scherzer on limited rest. Having Corbin pitch 4-5 innings against the Astros is a lot different than having him pitch 1-2. Especially with the Nats' bullpen.

but he could throw in games 3 and 5 out of the pen and still maybe start game 7 if needed.

Astros fire assistant GM Brandon Taubman.

My god. Cancel culture is running amok in this country. What a hypersensitive snowflake that reporter must be. Stay out of the locker room if you don't like it. Is it too late for us to dig up everything every umpire has ever said, find the racist ones and just cancel the World Series?
Naw F that guy. Dude is a douche. Just like Osuna, I was disappointed when we got him. Watching the Red Sox fuck him up last year was slightly funny.

Not a bad idea. With a 2-game lead, the Nats shouldn't feel any pressure to use either of the two big guys in relief like they did in the previous series. I've got nothing against Corbin. He eats innings and is effective. That game where the Dodgers chewed him up left me with a little doubt, though not anywhere close to where I'd prefer Ross / Guerra / Suero / etc.

If Martinez and Sanchez can get a Game 3 win, then it's a good problem to have, I guess.

Agreed. I’m just thinking it most likely happens with a Sanchez/Corbin/Rainey/Hudson/doc pitching path.

That's one possibility. I'm going to guess that Martinez has two different plans for it, based on either winning or losing tomorrow.

the worst case scenario is throwing Corbin tomorrow and still losing the game.

In relief, you mean?

Yes. If they're gonna throw Corbin in relief tomorrow, they HAVE to win. Frankly I might plan on having him close tomorrow just to make sure he isn't wasted.

Slightly useful info for game 3.

In June old man Greinke (18-5, 2.93) shut out the Nats in Washington for 7.1 innings in a 5-0 win while with AZ. WSH, 31-37 at the time, hadn't figured it out yet. Post ERA is 6.43. 0-2, 15 hits in 14 innings. 5 HR.

Old man Sanchez (11-8, 3.85) didn't face the Astros in 2019. He was 4-2, 4.24 in Nationals Park. Post ERA is 0.71. 1-0, 5 hits in 12.2 innings. 1 HR.

Edge to Sanchez and Nats at home. WSH is freakin hot. Eight in a row. Nats could knock four homers.

23 years since a team came back to win the series after dropping the first two at home.

They're due!

But nah I want the Expos to win

Nationals are +33 in run differential in the past 8 playoff games. If a team makes a mistake on them they just drop 3 or 4 runs like its nothing.

I'm reminded a little bit of the 2012 Giants. 93/94 wins in the regular season. Giants won 3 straight against the Cardinals and then went on to sweep Verlander and the Tigers in the WS.

Yep, and the odds had the Giants as clear underdogs then, just like the Nats vs Dodgers and now Astros. But baseball isn't like that...
