No worries, just seemed like you were at least willing to have the discussion. Fact is, Kershaw is 5 shitty 7th innings since 2013 away from having postseason averages close to his reg season averages (2.42 ERA).

My whole point is that he was kept in for those innings because LA's bullpen sucked (or in this year's case, he still should have been pulled because the pen is so great). So to me that doesn't look like a simply black and white Kershaw between the regular and postseason.

I'm not trying to convince you of anything, just pointing those stats out because you're caught up on his overall numbers.

Well, thanks for taking the time to point that out. It’s always important to remember that if what actually happened hadn’t, things would be different different than they are.

Might want to check your math, though. Kersaw has pitched 113.3 postseason innings. He’d have to have given up 24 ER in those five innings that you’d like us to ignore to take his ERA from 4.21 to 2.42.

And yet context still matters.

Context...

Kershaw has averaged 6.7 IP/GS with a 2.36 ERA in the regular season over his career. In the postseason, only 6.0 IP/GS with a 4.21 ERA.

I think the most relevant context to this discussion is that you and outlaw are Dodgers fans.

“But if you pretend his his bad innings didn’t happen, he’s been much better.”

2004 took plenty of years off my life. totally worth it though.
In 2010 TORTURE became the go to word.

I know there a few outstanding closers amidst us, but damn, this year and last makes me appreciate even more the GOAT.

Astros win their first World Series game ever. It was the longest streak to start a franchise without a World Series win in MLB history. Nationals/Expos franchise would break that record if they don't win a World Series game by 2025.

Phillies did have only 1 win (1915 World Series) until they won the 1980 World Series.

Crazy fucking game last night, and the Astros have stolen home field advantage.

It reminded me of the Indians/Red Sox game in August when Carrasco, Sale, Miller, Kimbrel and Allen all got shelled.

Baseball is a crazy sport. Shit you would never expect to happen happens.

@DJ, now I will agree with you; there is no chance the Dodgers sweep this series.

Baseball Prospectus hasn't updated their playoff odds since the regular season ended.

FiveThirtyEight gives the Dodgers a 54% chance of winning the series (down from 60-something yesterday).

FanGraphs has the Astros with a 51.6% chance to take the series.

I will say, considering the regular season and playoffs thus far, I do believe that the best teams from the AL and NL are participating in the World Series, which is cool.

I'm not sure who I'm rooting for at this point. Probably still leaning to the Dodgers because I like Kershaw and dislike Keuchel and Verlander. One thing I know I'm rooting for is seven games.

Just the 2nd World Series game ever to have multiple extra-inning HRs, and there were 5. The only other one was Game 6 in 2011 when there were 2.

Extra-inning HRs in World Series history when the team was trailing:

1914, Game 3: Hank Gowdy
2017, Game 2: Yasiel Puig
2017, Game 2: Charlie Culberson

Extra-inning HRs in World Series history when the team was ahead:

2017, Game 2: Carlos Correa

How horrified must the Dodgers have been when they sent Brandon F McCarthy out to the mound in the 11th?

Yeah painted themselves into a corner. First postseason appearance ever for a guy who hasn't pitched since October 1st, and it's the 11th inning of Game 2 of the World Series.

It's also worth noting that he's not that good - below average.

Was really hoping for a Justin Turner off Justin Verlander HR. Would join the following:

Greg Gagne vs Greg Mathews: 1987 Game 4
Dwight Evans vs Dwight Gooden: 1986 Game 2
Don Mincher vs Don Drysdale: 1965 Game 1
Billy Martin vs Billy Loes: 1952 Game 2
Bob Elliott vs Bob Feller: 1948 Game 5 (twice)
Joe DiMaggio vs Joe Hatten: 1947 Game 3
Hank Greenberg vs Hank Wyse: 1945 Game 2
George Watkins vs George Earnshaw: 1930 Game 2 AND 1931 Game 7

And my personal favorite:

Rube Oldring vs Rube Marquard: 1911 Game 5

You guys don't have to tell me how cool I am, I already know.

Looks like my strategy of betting on the Dodgers and the Under and going to bed when it was 3-1 paid off.

Aura of invincibility of Dodger bullpen lifted and Houston hitters getting their mojo back.

Probably saved myself a heart attack or two as well.
