Over the last few years, come Oct, time and time again a coworker (who umps organized ball and knows more about BB than anyone I've met) would come to work and rip into the manager for F'ing the game up when 'Shaw was pitching.

It was like watching a slow-moving train wreck every time it happened. But I knew it would happen because every year the pen was shit and it was either take your chances with Kershaw doing well for one more inning, or bringing in relievers that were notorious for losing 2+ run leads. Fucked either way and knew it.

The bullpen let Kershaw down plenty of times too in the past. He would have a decent game, then 2 guys get on base. He gets pulled out of the game, and the bullpen (Baez) can not finish their jobs. Runners scores and inflates his ERA up even more. Sure, I understand it was his base runners but if we had a decent bullpen back then, they would've finished their jobs.

I understand that these stats seem cherry-picked, but if we are looking at the modern Kershaw, and without those 5 7th-innings he had no business pitching in, his postseason ERA is 2.42 and that's pretty good.

Those stats don’t seem cherry-picked. They are absolutely cherry-picked.

Verlander 0-3 with 7.20 ERA in World Series games. HOWEVER! I have been told he will be RAZOR Sharp tonight and that smart and easy money should be on him. LOL

Four earned runs. That’s not nearly what I’d expect from an ace of Kluber’s or Kershaw’s abilities.

Kluber shit the bed in game seven. Of course, he’d pitched his arm off at that point, which you can’t say about Kershaw’s clunker this year.

Given the numbers, I’m surprised you can’t acknowledge that their might be an issue. Doesn’t seem very objective to me.

I think I'm being plenty objective. It's a double standard that you would say Kershaw wilts under pressure when he's thrived with this year's bullpen behind him, Kluber had a solid bullpen behind him last year, and he shit the bed twice in the ALDS with an even better team around him this year. I would rather Kershaw have a decent start in Game 1 of the NLDS than a bad start in Game 7 of the World Series. 3 straight bad starts from Kluber, can't recall Kershaw ever having 3 straight bad starts in the playoffs, even with a less than stellar team around him.

He just finished pitching one of the better games in WS history and still gets labeled a choke artist. The belief that one player is more "clutch" than another is just as silly as the argument that one team "wanted it more". Pure speculation. I don't think someone of Kershaw or Kluber's talent all of a sudden forgets how to pitch once October rolls around. I wouldn't hesitate to hand the ball to either one of those guys to start an important game.

That's fair. I tried to contextualize 5 bad innings of his (out of 100+) that are all 7th innings, all with a solid 6 innings prior, all 100+ pitches, with two of them also pitching on 3 days rest. I think that's a pattern, and that had he been pulled, he would be considered a very respectable postseason pitcher. Even counting his first two postseasons (even though he is a drastically better pitcher now), just taking away those five 7th-innings puts his career postseason ERA at 3.15 instead of 4.21.

You sure are a sensitive guy.

Not objective, though.

Astros 5-2 tonight. Verlander goes 7. Hill suddenly remembers that he's 37 and over the hill, and can't get past the 4th inning.
