I was looking back to see how much different our last offseason thread was from this one and I found this post. This was from October of 2022. That guy didn't know very much, apparently. We need at least 3 or 4 much better bats than we had this year, even with better pitching.
We are simply not going to a World Series in 2023. It has never been about 2023 anyway. The owner does want to have a much better record next year, but even he doesn't think we will get to a WS in 2023.

When I wrote that, it was before the offseason even got underway very much. I had no idea about who the Rangers would acquire last offseason, and no I didn't expect as much out of Duran or anything from Carter. Seager and Semien had better years than I anticipated as well. Was thinking the thought was they would keep playing Miller and Grossman
But Duran and Janks delivered. And then to me the still underrated Evan Cater. The kid is special
The mark of greatness
Because we have not signed the pitching we need, makes me think we are not shooting for a WS in 2024 but in 2025 when DeGrom and Scherzer return. I know they will be back mid 2024 but will we be in the running in order for them to make a difference? If we are,all the better. Then some of the starters go to the pen. I do believe that is CY's thinking.
Good
The trouble comes if we have multiple injuries to one of our 5 starters, Leclerc or Sborz before the end of July. We could have a minor leaguer come up and surprise us, but that is certainly not a given.Because we have not signed the pitching we need, makes me think we are not shooting for a WS in 2024 but in 2025 when DeGrom and Scherzer return. Exactly and injuries are likely to occur. Signing Monty and Robertson could have a huge impact in the right direction. The trouble comes if we have multiple injuries to one of our 5 starters, Leclerc or Sborz before the end of July. I still think Jon Gray has the stuff in short bursts that work perfectly as a closer.I was thinking who goes to the bullpen when the injured pitchers come back.
Now sign Montgomery and be done with it.The Rangers are in agreement with David Robertson on a one-year deal in the $11-12MM range, reports Jeff Passan of ESPN (X link). The contract is pending a physical.
