Speaking of third base, Donaldson traded to Toronto for basically prospects...could we have offered something better?

No.

1) The As got a 3B in return. The Giants don't have an MLB 3B to offer back.

2) Beane will not trade with the Giants. I believe the last Giants/As trade was the Beck deal. That was more than 20 years ago.

Again, he will be playing in hitter-friendly AL East parks not pitcher friendly NL West ones. We will indeed see.

Can't bring myself to wish ill for him, especially since he's in the American League but I don't think he'll ever be the Sandoval of 2007-8.

I suspect the 3B options are...

1) Headley
2) Trade

I don't think any other options exist outside of complete failure.

3) Plug in defensive guy like say Arias and spend your shekels on a masher in left to bat cleanup.
4) Work on 2016

5) Try using an existing starter who has our most promising backup looking for playing time, who you want to move anyway sooner rather than later, who has infield experience and a great arm, and is a former MVP who hits even better when moved from his current position. Do we have someone like that?

Why? Because some poker-playing assistant GM said it did? And you believed him?!?

What possible advantage does the team have, post-Sandoval, to say that they have to go out-of-org to solve their 3B issue, and to further say the Posey will NEVER be the regular 3B?

All that does is tell everyone we are desperate buyers.

So, yes. I believe them.

To bid up the price on Sandoval and Headley, creating false demand when in fact they may have no real intention of trying to obtain their services?

OK, each player gets two cards face down (hole cards). Then there is a round of betting. Then three cards are dealt face up (flop)...

This is all just internet jaw jaw, we'll see who the 3B is April 2015. It's really really unlikely to be Posey.

Not a guy like that with ANY range, no.

When the latest "bluff" was made, though, the pot had already been shoved, by the dealer, to Boston. No point in continuing to say you have 2-7 off. The hand is over.

With the Giants sitting at #19 now, I think they are Scherzer or bust as far as QO FAs are concerned.

UNLESS they decide to sign multiple QO FAs...

I see Markakis and Headley as serious possibilities, then 1 or 2 B or C level SPs (Masterson, Vogey, Peavy, etc)

I like the move for the M's, and it makes Michael Saunders even more available.

I agree that the lower this pick is getting, the less likely the Giants are to sign someone with a QO. I think it was Scherzer or bust form the start anyway, and that's probably why they are showing more interest in Lester too. The more big contracts they lock up, the more they'll need these first rounders to hit, and at #19, that's great value for winning the WS.

My wishlist still stands: Lester, Headley, Saunders. I've also heard that Peavy and Lester are a package deal, wonder how that plays out as we probably won't have the money to sign Peavy. He'll probably just move on to the Cubs.

Welp, Michael Saunders is out of the picture too. Traded to the Jays. I'm actually a little disappointed, probably the only one here.

I am getting a little concerned that NOTHING has happened with the Giants yet.

We lost out on Sandoval.
We lost out on Tomas.
We lost out on Markakis.
We lost out on Hanley.
We lost out on Cruz.
We lost out on Hunter.
We lost out on Saunders.

Granted, I think that in each of these individually, "losing" was the winning move. But when looked at as a whole, it makes you scratch your head a little and wonder what the team WILL do this off-season.

Hopefully not overpay for mediocre talent when 'worried', like they did with Rowand and Zito.

Rowand and Zito were completely different situations. I am not even slightly worried about the potential of those moves. They were both primarily marketing moves to try to convince fans they were serious. No need to convince anyone of that any more. I just worry that they will begin to sit back and relax because they have so much success in the bank.
