Read that the Dodgers are looking to deal Greinke. I know a good place for him.

I can't see the doyers trading Greinke. That just wouldn't make any sense, unless they felt Lester/Scherzer were an upgrade. They've got Kershaw (under contract through 2022)/Greinke(2018)/Ryu(2018)/Haren(2015). I'd be interested in the link though.

LAD believes Greinke could opt out after this season and test the market.

Even so, they would not trade Greinke here.

I wouldn't want to trade for him (give up prospects), then have him opt-out only to leave or get bigger money.


Rather just give up one prospect and sign Scherzer to a mega deal, or preferably give up not prospects and sign Lester.

Ya, its scary going after the big name starters because they take a serious chunk out of your budget and if they don't work out ala Lincecum and Zito you are financially strapped for a while.

True enough, but in fairness, almost every contender has bad contracts. But boy does this magnify the value of a good GM. Or a bad one.

I think that as far as the draft goes, Posey, drafted in '08, would be the main potential casualty, but that was after only 1 year of Zito, and when the Giants were SUPER bad anyway. I doubt not signing him would have done anything to affect drafting Posey.

Drafting Panik in '09 might have been affected though. Also, "Panda" would never have been born, so the whole atmosphere at AT&T would have been different. How much did that have to do with Pence's love affair with the team and city? Would "The Speech" have ever happened without Panda-monium? Heck, would the Pence trade have ever happened if we did not have ToJo as a trade-piece?

All the Panda revenue, the fun-loving family atmosphere that ensued. Belt probably wouldn't have gotten his nickname if it wasn't for. It just changed the culture around the team. At least, that's my take on what Cal meant.

Also, Panik was drafted in 2011. Wheeler in 2009.
