Why do Texas fans act like the Longhorn network is great?

I know I'm jealous as fuck I can't watch reruns of Vandy and Kentucky football

I think I'd rather watch that than the 10th rerun of an Alabama game in 3 days.

Man I can see you haven't had the pleasure to talking to aggy fans.......apparently you aren't a real fan if you don't have a class ring or attended.....you're just a "t-shirt" fan worthy of scorn and derision........couldn't tell them pretty much the entirety of college football and the SEC especially are comprised of "t-shirt" fans, but oh well.......

I never hear this from Aggie fans or Aggie alums. I only hear this on sports forums and mostly from teasips.

I don't have a TAMU Ring. While all my friends were attending college I spent most of my time overseas bombing the shit out of foreign countries. However, I grew up there, half my family went there, and I support the university and have been a fan since the SWC days back int he 80's when I was a little kid. I've done some work with the University, I have a couple of family members that work there. And every year when my company goes head hunting for campus hires we go there. I got my ring at one of their sister schools because it was the closest to me and I was raising a family at the time.

Most aggies I know don't consider me a t-shirt fan. Some hard core ones might but the majority that I know don't really care. I understand that most people in Texas pick a side regardless of how their lives end up. Some have had the privilege of actually attending classes at their university but most of us did not. I have a friend that graduated from SFA that is probably the biggest Texas fan I've ever met. Most people that work for me don't have an education beyond high school and nearly all of them wear orange and a few maroon.

The reason the whole t-shirt thing began is because of how easy it is to be a Texas fan. The entire state is full of them. They are the biggest, richest, most exposed brand out there in the state and have been for over a century. It used to annoy me when I would meet people while in different states and in different countries when they find out that I'm from Texas they immediately assume that I'm a longhorn.

It's the herd mentality. Everyone in 3rd grade throws up a hook 'em so you do too. You would have to actually want to be an Aggie to break from the crowd and you would still not understand unless you experienced it.

To be fair, I have always told my kids to go to whatever school offers the greatest chance of success in whatever career they decide to chase. I have a niece that wants to be a doctor and plans on going to Baylol. I have a step daughter that went to WTAMU and another one that went to TAMUC and another one that wants to go to UNT. My son is thinking about UTEP but is a heavy lean towards the Navy. They all wear maroon on Saturdays in the fall.

Right now they look up to Bama with awe......but soon, after enough beatings, you'll become what we were to them. They haven't yet figured out their role is to be good enough to beat the scrubs, but otherwise pose no threat to the upper echelon teams in conference, and boost your SOS. Pretty much what they were in the Big12.

Anyway, have fun with those guys......and remember we told you what would happen when you let them in

that's one thing some others may not understand.

Texas fans love everything about the university- they are proud of not only football, but also follow basketball, baseball, and all the other sports. There's a sense of pride, of belonging to something together. I'm sure that happens everywhere else as well, but for some places-and Texas is one-UT exes love seeing their teams and school do well. Especially those who got their degrees from the place, they feel they belong to something special, and the LHN plays on that.

Call it what you will, but it exists.

This thread isn't about the SEC Network at all - you guys keep bringing it up. My OP didn't mention it at all.

And I don't love the SEC conference at all. It's the toughest conference in football and that's about it.

I'm pretty sure, that if Texas is paid what they are owed in the contract, and Espins rolls it into a conference network, most fans would be fine with it. Problem is, that's not going to help anyone if some substantial tv markets are not added to the league.

Secondly, I find it funny that some of the most conservative people on the planet, say that Texas should void their contract and turn away from millions of dollars, just to assuage the jealousy of others. Basically, conservative minds are telling Texas to become as communists, give their money to those unable to get it on their own. Is just an interesting part of all this.

Yes sir, BASEBALL season is when the LHN becomes my favorite network. It's so great having a network dedicated to your favorite teams, it has been so easy to get my 3yr old to love Texas since its on tv 24/7.

I think the LHN is symptom of a bigger problem and it's not a secret to what that problem is.

And I'd agree you need more markets, that's why you'll be adding Memphis and Cincy.

And as for conservative - this is not government. The people within a conference are chosen to be part of it, and member schools vote to have such things. Nobody is forcing them, unlike government.

We countered with "All 3rd tier programming sucks."
The Longhorn Network is not unique.

3rd tier is the junk nobody else wants.
So, the LHN and SEC Network both add a few fluff studio shows (repeated over and over) to make it less boring.

All the stuff that anyone cares about in the Big 12 is not part of the LHN.
