No doubt that is why they ranked USC and Texas in the pre-season, so they could televise a ranked vs ranked opponent. Unfortunately, you two perennially overrated pre-season queens had to fuck it up by shitting the bed early. If you want to beat a ranked Texas team, you better do it early...just ask Maryland, she'll tell you.

Wow, someone is in a bad mood. Your cousin out of town?

I'll give 5 reasons
1) HC who is only 1 of 4 active coaches with a NC
2) A&M recruiting classes avg top 15 the last 4 years
3) their QB is top 10 in QBR
4) they have the most impressive lost (They looked impressive in a Primetime game)
5) not a lot of data. Not a lot of goods wins/great loses from other teams to say otherwise

Who should we replace A&M with then? :noidea:

Eh. VT was better 96-2001, Iowa was better 02-10, both sucked 11-14, Iowas been slightly better 15-present ( but its close). There arent a lot of programs who have been better than Iowa the last 15 years. Maybe 10-15. VT isn't one of them.

I'd disagree with that. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that would lead one to believe Iowa was better during that stretch.

?? Iowa has 5 top 10s the last 15 years , 3 BCS/NY6 games, a Lombardi winner, a Mackey winner, multiple an Outland winner, a Doak Walker winner, an Obrien winner, a Nagurski winner, a Thorpe winner ,a Groza winner, multiple Heisnan top 5s, more NFL players Maybe you didn't realize? Iowa isn't exactly a limelight program but theyve been far better than VT since 02. The only reason your comment is close to accurate is you said since 95. Of course from 80-94 Iowa was light years better than VT as well

Since 2002 (since your argument is over the past 15 years)

Top 10 finishes:

Iowa: 5
VT: 4

Top 25 finishes

VT: 11
Iowa: 6

10+ win seasons

VT: 10
Iowa: 5

Major Bowl Games

VT: 5
Iowa: 3

This isn't a slight on Iowa. VT was a 10 win machine there for about a decade.

4 top 10 national finishes, multiple Big 10 titles, more NFL players, award winners all over the place. Maybe I'm wrong but I dont remember VT being too 10 that many times. If so feel free to correct me

Fair enough. I dont really consider top 25 an accomplishment but thanks for the other info. 10 win seasons certainly are impressive

the blanket VT and Iowa comparison doesn't any sense to me, but i haven't read the entire conversation so I'm probably missing something

Outside of 2012-2015, VT has been a much better program than Iowa since 1995.

This is where each team started and finished since 2008:

Virginia Tech:

2008: Started 15th, Ended 15th
2009: Started 7th, Ended 10th
2010: Started 13th, Ended 15th
2011: Started 13th, Ended 21st
2012: Started 15th, Ended UR
2013: Started UR, Ended UR
2014: Started UR, Ended UR
2015: Started UR, Ended UR
2016: Started UR, Ended 16th
2017: Started 21st, Ended 24th

Iowa:

2008: Started UR, Ended 20th
2009: Started 22nd, Ended 7th
2010: Started 9th, Ended UR
2011: Started UR, Ended UR
2012: Started UR, Ended UR
2013: Started UR, Ended UR
2014: Started UR, Ended UR
2015: Started UR, Ended 9th
2016: Started 17th, Ended UR
2017: Started UR, Ended UR

Va Tech appears to have been overrated in two years(2011, 2012). Iowa appears to have been overrated for two years(2010, 2016). Neither has vastly been underrated or overrated IMO.

Between 2002 and 2010, Va. Tech has 4 top 10 finishes, 4 conference titles, more wins and a better winning %.

The D this year is probably the best we've had in a long time, maybe the best of Ferentz tenure. Looking forward to the game Saturday at the Badger OL vs Iowas DL may be the best in game matchup of any game all weekend

yeah, the difference between the two programs isn't at big as I initially thought. VT has been more consistent, but one could make an argument that Iowa has had more great seasons since 2002.

i was wrong to call your original post homerific.

Shit man no one watches Iowa play unless we are playing OSU/Michigan/PSU etc and even then it's not just see TV. Cant blame anyone. We are boring as fuck lol. That said I think Ferentz has done about as good a job as you can do in a state with mo recruiting at a school with no appeal . It's honestly shocking how many 2 and 3 star guys he molds into NFL players
