Why are NBA TV ratings down so much?

while a great question, I also hold a minority view in baseball: that the home run should be a foul, out of play. MLB has become too much of a slugfest like the NBA a 3-fest. I would like to see more hitting and running with higher batting averages rather than just swinging for the fence.
The fun part of baseball is working to score. The fun part of basketball is working to score. 3s and homeruns are for the lowest, slowest, losers that aren't smart enough to follow the actual action.

The NFL has changed for the worse, too. No doubt about it.

I found the NBA to be a horrible product, so I stopped watching. The only part of the game you needed to watch was the last 2 minutes, but the last two minutes took 45 minutes to play and were completely unwatchable. I wondered if others felt the same. That’s why I inquired about the terrible ratings.

That's not new. The bold is almost literally what my non-hoops fan father used to say about basketball > 50 years ago. I'm just a casual fan these days and watch little until the playoffs. If the Pistons ever stop sucking that may change though.

On Dan Patrick this morning, they mentioned getting rid of the 3-point line altogether. Said that it would make the game better.

Not sure I agree with getting rid of it...but I do think they need to find a way to remove some of the emphasis on it.

Sounds like incredibly boring basketball if they got rid of it. Basketball the only sport that wants to go backwards

Man can you imagine the reaction if they did? Teams have been built with it, mine included.

The whole LEAGUE is built around it. As a result, it’s obviously not going anywhere.
Except maybe further out and removed from the corner :heh: :heh: :heh:

I was following the NBA before the 3 was allowed in the NBA. Never found it boring. I do find teams jacking up 3 after 3 to be boring...especially when they aren't hitting them.

I don't think they will ever get rid of the 3. But I'd like to see them de-emphasize it some (not exactly sure how). I like the 3 from the standpoint that if a team is trying to come back from a big deficit and they get hot from the 3 point line, they can get back in the game quickly.

On the other hand, if they aren't hitting them, it can turn into an unwatchable mess pretty quickly too.

The biggest problem, imo, is when they aren't hitting the shot, but keep shooting it anyway instead of letting success be their guide.

I mean 50 threes is a lot but I can live with those teams attempting 30-35 on a decent % especially if it’s coming off good offense

If a team misses 15 threes in one game it's a game misconduct penalty and they lose the game and forfeit the next game.

If any player misses 5 threes in one game it's a game misconduct penalty and he's suspended the next game.

Back in the 90’s I asked myself “why don’t teams just get a few really good 3-point shooters and just shoot a lot more 3’s if they’re percentages would hold up with way more attempts?” Then Golden State really took to it and I didn’t care for it.
I still don’t know why a hockey team doesn’t sign a Sumo wrestler to man the net.

Might not watch a regular season NHL game until somebody does.

This in a nutshell. You'd think teams would figure out after a while that you should at least take SOME closer shots instead of shooting your way out of a win.

We saw the Houston Rockets gift-wrap a Finals berth to the Warriors because of this nonsense.
