Why don’t mlb make every stadium the same exact dimensions as well?
Great question. Worse than the 3 pt line. At least that is the same in all arenas. But, in the grand scheme, baseball stadia are irrelevant to basketball.

while a great question, I also hold a minority view in baseball: that the home run should be a foul, out of play. MLB has become too much of a slugfest like the NBA a 3-fest. I would like to see more hitting and running with higher batting averages rather than just swinging for the fence.

Lol wut

The big issue with baseball from a hitting standpoint is the analytics teams have for shifts

Additionally pitchers are throwing far nastier stuff, high 90s guys used to be maybe a half dozen, now half the league throws that hard.

In the 90s the average fastball was 88, it is now almost 95. That is a huge difference. And it makes changeups and breaking stuff harder to deal with.

Why doesn’t the NBA have a DH?

Ooh.

Good idea.

Every time Shaq gets fouled you can bring in a DS (designated shooter) off the bench to take the free throws.

Let’s bring in hockey subs also. You have a player than can defend but sucks on offense?

Shuttle him in and out for Trae Young every time down the court.

Problem is that’s really hard to adjust 30 stadiums and change courtside seating. Much easier to let the 3 point arc extend to the sideline instead of bending and going to the end line. Less drastic too
“Hard”, but not impossible. I’m sure they could find a few feet around the court to expand if they wanted to. It’s a good idea. The players are bigger and faster and could use a little more room.

Why doesn’t the NBA have line changes on the fly the way the NHL does? As long as you do this in the backcourt, who needs to wait for a whistle to do substitutions?

True, but I have feelings about minimum innings for starters and maximum pitching changes as well.
But we are talking basketball

It’s a terrible idea. More space means less ability to help on defense. We would have 160-159 scores every night.

A couple extra feet(plus pushing the corner 3 back to a uniform distance) would increase scoring THAT much??

The game is fine, its a long season, we just aren't going to get ferocious defense week in and out. All that changes in the playoffs.

It may not sound like much, but 2 extra feet per side is an extra 60ft^2 below the freethrow line to defend.

But it is also offset by lower percentages on the corner 3. Also, a lot of that additional space is not in places where people will be shooting from. I think you are overestimating the impact on scoring.

Exaggerating, yes, but all that space will be places guys are scoring from as I just put the extra area below the free throw line. The slightly lower 3 point percentage will be easily eclipsed by the difficulty defending the paint with the extra space. It would be entertaining with the increase in dunks.

I have zero issue with a corner 3 being 2 feet shorter.

Court would look really dumb with 3 point line ending around the free throw line.
Wow guys the court would look dumb. The game would be better, but the court would look dumb so no fixing it.
