Who's OK with BJGE as RB?

Watching him catch the ball. He uses good form and has good hands.

Ahh, so no stats or anything to back it up, so the classic "I watch games" argument.

In 4 years, he has 26 total receptions. 9 last season. Considering he's never played for the Bengals, I question how many times you've actually watched him catch the ball.

And then to try to equate his abilities to another player whom you probably have not watched play much either (catching or rushing at that)...

Wishful thinking at best.

You aren't worth the effort. If you can't watch a player and look beyond stats that'd be your issue not mine.

Anyone who would say they're ok with BJGE as our feature back is a blind homer.

Maybe one day when I have more time, I'll show you what to look for to give a good analysis of what a player can do. Maybe it'll help you be insightful. I don't have time now though.

Could we be better, absolutely. But people stuck on Michael Bush as though he is way better than BJGE just don't have a clue what they're watching. There's a reason as a free agent, he still couldn't do better than a backup job.

Translation: "I'm right because I said so..."

LOL!

Really though, how many times have you seen BJGE catch the ball? 50 times? 75?

Unfortunately for him (and us), his pay grade was too high for the Bengals.

Case in point: Bush is getting paid more to be a backup than BJGE is to be a starter.

That's irrelevant. MJD was the 8th highest paid RB last season. Pay doesn't equal success. There's not a single thing to suggest that Bush is better than BJGE. Bengals fans just have wanted him since his Louisville days and are biased.

He's a better pass catcher and there are these things called stats that absolutely back that up, no matter how much you want to continue denying it.

As for pay...duh! However, the facts in this case suggest that pay has everything to do with BJGE being a starter and Bush not. Brown continually signing 2nd/3rd tier players at a cheaper rate is written all over this.

Your last statement is just asinine. Talk about grasping at straws...

I probably watched Bush play college football once. I really can't remember. I probably watched him play NFL football 2 or 3 times. I don't really remember. I've never seen the official game-tape on either back. I'm guessing that I'm not different from the typical fan...... That said, like others I thought Bush would be a better fit. I based that almost completely on his numbers over time and the thoughts of the guys that write for the major sports organizations.

I hope BJGE is capable of being a solid back.... I have my doubts. He seems like a guy that would be better in a platoon, which is what I thought the plan was with him anyway. Unfortunately the guy he will share time with absolutely sucks. Therefore, we didn't improve the 'position' in the offseason.

go to youtube and search for
2010 ben jarvis green ellis highlights, he looks great
then look for
2011 ben jarvis green ellis highlights, he looks like a deer stuck in the headlights

what will we get 2012? don't know, he weights 220, so I suppose we're hoping for him to smash into the goal line and run short yardage situations. but I wouldn't really know, I'm not Jon Gruden.

I'm not going to say that he can or can't fit into what needs to be done here, but I will say that just because a guy was not asked to do something in a specific offense does not mean that he CAN'T do it when asked.

I think what is more important than the number of catches is the number of times he was successful at completing his tasks when asked. If he was targeted 22 times and made 10 catches...that would be some cause for concern since Brady is usually accurate, and the RB routes are usually high percentage passes. However, if he was only the intended target 15 times and made 11 catches (I have no clue what his stats were, just making up for examples), then that would seem to be solid. Did he have any drops? That's a big factor.

I will say that BJ seemed like a capable blocker in N.E. Something that will be required here. I say that he'll be no worse than Benson, with a better attitude.

The real key for any RB (not named Barry Sanders) is the OL. Right now, that is a major issue. Whit looks injured (see other thread) and Faine is coming in cold. We basically have 2 rookies starting on the interior line, where BJ would be best at running the ball. If these guys don't get push, then not only is it going to effect the running game, but it is going to hurt the passing game as they will be able to drop more guys into coverage against Dalton and Co.

I agree. I'm not saying he won't be or can't be successful at catching out of the backfield, but the point I was originally making was we had the opportunity to pick up a legitimate and proven catcher out of the backfield, but settled for less due to being cheap.

However, I will say, I do have my doubts about BJGE being a successful pass catcher. He's coming from a team who loves the short passing game, but never felt it worthwhile to get him involved in catching passes if not only to add another dimension to their passing game.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis Highlights (11 - 12) - YouTube

Here is a neat highlight film of the Firm rushing for about 3.1 yards per pop.... That's with the safeties playing back and the linebackers being scared to death of the tight-ends in the passing game.

Why does anyone think this kid is going to be good?

BTW -- The comments on the video are hilarious.
