Well that was a short experiment...
no since it doesnt work that way he still gets paid no matter whatAre the Panthers hoping the 49ers claim him so they won't have to pay the guaranteed salary?
So if the 49ers give the Panthers a sweet trade in next year's draft, do conspiracy theories start? Are the Panthers hoping the 49ers claim him so they won't have to pay the guaranteed salary?
Well I think after all the Watson stuff it was long-term for Cleveland but really they failed so far this season. Early games didn’t go their way/they blew them or else they would be in the thick of the playoff race. Its actually kinda weird that both the Browns and the Panthers stunk this year. You would've expected a slight winner somewhere
i was wrong but its not muchno since it doesnt work that way he still gets paid no matter what
hes fine getting 10 mil from cleve and 5 mil from carolina

More importantly, when does he hit XFL waivers…
Good points Shark.Well the Browns are the Browns... it's never weird or surprising when they suck. As for the Panthers, that's hardly a shock at all... they went and signed Darnold, Mayfield, Eason, drafted Corrall... pretty sure signed Montana and Favre, and every other fuckin' washed up QB in and/or out of the league...
The point was that if he was claimed the new team would take responsibility for the $1.3M salary and the Panthers would be off the hook. If he clears waivers the Panthers would still be on that $1.3M hook, so they'd prefer someone to claim him. Potentially a team could claim him just to stop the 49ers getting him. If he isn't claimed he could sign a new contract with any team willing to sign mutually agreed terms, or he could sit out until 2023. Regardless of 2022 performance he's probably a better 2023 FA option than Mariota or Bridgewater.i was wrong but its not much
Panthers waived QB Baker Mayfield.
The Panthers acquired Mayfield from the Browns in exchange for a conditional 2024 fifth-round pick in July. They also agreed to take on just under $5 million in salary. The Panthers aren't on the hook for anything beyond 2022, and Mayfield essentially hits his 2023 unrestricted free agency year a few months early. It's potentially good timing for Mayfield, with the 49ers needing to take any quarterback with a pulse seriously after losing Jimmy Garoppolo to a season-ending injury. Although the 49ers and every other NFL franchise will be highly skeptical of Mayfield adding positively to their team. He currently ranks dead last in EPA per play. Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Mayfield's release was a "mutual agreement" initiated by Mayfield, who was aware he was no longer a part of the Panthers' plans. Mayfield should find another job in short order, and because he was cut following the NFL trade deadline, he will be subject to waivers. It's possible that he is claimed if another team is willing to take on his remaining salary. Per ESPN's Field Yates, that cost would be 1.3 million for the rest of the regular season. If Mayfield clears waivers, he will become a free agent.
