Should be in:

Smokey Yunick
Ralph Moody
Lee Roy Yarbrough
Jim Paschal
Jack Smith

Shouldn’t be in:

Cotton Owens
Alan Kulwicki
Red Byron

Ron Hornaday Jr shouldn’t be in as a driver, but he was a pretty big ambassador and was fundamental in the success of a lot of current stars, so I’m fine with him being there.

Kulwicki has the biggest underdog story in NASCAR history, but at the end of the day, 5 wins in 8 years isn’t a HOFer.

If you’re gonna have Red Byron simply for being the first ever champion, might as well put in the second champion as well, Bill Rexford, they have 3 wins between them

Davey Allison was originally on my shouldn’t be in list, but 19 wins in under 200 starts is impressive.

Kulwicki is only in because his underdog/sob story, last owner-driver to win then he died.. I liked him though.

Allison was destined for greatness. What Swervin' Ernie did with the 28 was pretty damn impressive too.

Crashed in August and still had most laps led going into November.
That RYR Ford was a rocket.

yeah I think Davey driving RYR cars would have been considered one of the best ever if his life wasnt cut short.

Saw that Dale Jr. was announced as a HOF inductee. At first I was surprised and didn't think he was a HOF candidate for what he's done on the track. Granted, I don't follow NASCAR, but I looked it up and he's won 26 NASCAR races. I'd say that's pretty good. Right?

Nobody has won the same or more races and isn’t in the HOF.

I never was a fan, but take away the last name and everyone would agree he had a real strong career and had stretches of being near the top.

26 races is definitely Hall of OK worthy.
Having all of his fathers delusional fans is what makes him HOF worthy.

26 wins is more than ok considering the average NASCAR is someone like Landon Cassill

Thanks, I just presumed that a big reason he was nominated was because of his last name. Didn't realize he had won that many races.

His last name made him popular, but there’s a lot of drivers universally considered good that would trade results with him in a heartbeat

26 wins puts him at winning 4% of his races. That's below many others.
I guess Kurt Busch is also HOF destined with 31 wins and a 4.5% win percentage.
Truex Jr with 27 wins and a 5% win percentage.
Logano with 25 wins and a ^5 win percentage.
Brad Keslowski with 32 wins and an 8% win percentage.
Hamlin
Harvick
Kyle Busch

Good gads! The races are full of Hall of Famers now.

Bill Rexford is the only eligible champion not in the HOF, so yes all you mentioned will make it, and Denny Hamlin has the same amount of wins as Mark Martin.

And at one point in the 80’s you had:

Dale Earnhardt
Richard Petty
Cale Yarborough
Bobby Allison
Davey Allison
Alan Kulwicki
Darrell Waltrip
Buddy Baker
Mark Martin
Terry Labonte

To go with David Pearson and Dale Jarrett running part time all racing at once.

The all time wins list is littered with Steve parks and Ricky Cravens, Jimmy Spencers and Brett Bodines.
1 or 2 wins in a career.

26 doesn't seem all that high to me, someone who has driven sideways many times...but never 200 in bumper to bumper traffic on a Sunday afternoon.

To me, HOF is someone who is truly great.
Petty. 200 wins
Pearson 105.
Waltrip, 84
Senior, 76
Junior Johnson 50.

Still active drivers...
Kyle Busch - 56
Kevin Harvick - 51
Denny Hamlin - 40
Matt Kenseth - 39
Brad Keslowski - 32
Kurt Busch - 31
Martin Truex Jr - 27

26 for Junior just doesn't seem Great to me.
Kurt "Rubberhead" Busch has 31.

Over 3000 drivers with fewer than 200 ever getting even a single win. 26 wins is a hell of a lot more than you think. More than numerous Hall of Famers including some that started more races

Well damn.
Bobby Lebonte is in with 21 races won, but at least he was 2000 champion. DE Jr never won the big championship.

I’m sorry, but you can’t make a good argument to keep Jr out considering how bad the average NASCAR driver really is and how he was key in bringing NASCAR to the height of its popularity.
