Everett's hands were tied because Jones said he would not play for the Silvertips. Even now there's no guarantee that Jones will play for Portland, but given Potland's success the last couple years both in the standings and their fast tracking of players to the NHL, I think there's a good chance he'll end up there. If Jones does play for Portland, the draft pick Everett gets will be a good one.

I agree this deal looks like a good one for Portland. It was a smart trade for Everett to make though. Don't trade Jones and he plays college hockey instead and they get nothing. By making the trade they guarantee they'll get at least something for him.

If Seth Jones were available in this draft, the Oilers would take him 1st overall.

Definitely a possibility. He'll have a year to try and live up to that kind of hype. We'll see how he does. I do hope he ends up in the WHL. It would be fun to watch him play.


In WHL news, Edmonton beat Moose Jaw 3-2 tonight to take a 3-0 series lead. Safe to say the Oil Kings will be playing for the WHL title. They'll try to sweep the Warriors tomorrow, while Portland will be looking to take a 3-0 series lead over Tri-City.

Apparently Niagara Center Ryan Strome injured his right leg. He didn't play in the 2nd or 3rd periods of tonights 5-2 win for the Ice Dogs. I've looked all over the place, but I can't find any information on his status.

Moose Jaw staves off elimination with a 5-1 win over the Oil Kings tonight. Edmonton finally loses their first playoff game.

Sea Dogs lost their 1st game of the playoffs last night in Chicoutimi, losing 5-4 in OT. They now lead that series 2-1.

In the other semi, the road team is 4-0. Halifax won earlier tonight to tie that one up at 2-2.

Moose Jaw staves off elimination with a 5-1 win over the Oil Kings tonight. Edmonton finally loses their first playoff game.

Ends a 22 game winning streak over all as well. Still Edmonton leads the series 3-1. Portland beats Tri-City 3-1 to take a 3-0 lead in that series as well. For all intents and purposes it will be Portland vs Edmonton for the WHL title. The only real question is how many games will these teams have to play before advancing. It's an interesting matchup considering the current Winterhawks franchise was the original Edmonton Oil Kings from back when the WHL was known as the WCHL.

Also let it not be said that the Spokane Chiefs don't make you work hard to eliminate them. Since the 2006-07 season, every team that has eliminated Spokane has lost in the next round. That's pretty impressive stuff, IMO.

Carolina has got a dandy in this one.

With Faulk, Murphy, Doumalin & Alt the Hurricanes are loaded with D prospects. Their top forward prospects haven't developed nearly as well though.

I can't figure out why it's so hard to find info on Strome right now. UGH!!
