WHL playoffs underway

Yup, I normally cheer for the Dub at the Memorial Cup, but there's no way I can root for a team from Edmonton (that is, if the Oil Kings do prevail). The OHL team is usually filled with a bunch of arrogant asshats, so I'll be cheering for the Sea Dogs as well if it plays out that way.

I'll probably cheer for the Sea Dogs as well. Unless Portland makes it and I'll probably pull for them, but I don't think they will not with Mac and Swiss in net. It's too bad Shawinigan was eliminated early in the Q playoffs. I don't think they've ever really done anything and I like to root for teams like that, but I have a really hard time rooting for a host team that didn't win their league, let alone one that lost in the 2nd round. And yeah for some reason I always want the OHL to lose, heh.

They won tonight 2-1 over Niagara. London wins the series 4-1.

Strome did NOTHING the entire series. I really hope the Isles don't rush him to the NHL next year.

I'd like to apologize to the Portland Winterhawks. Their coach was right to bash the Isles for rushing Nino. I'm glad he did. Now I just hope last year didn't ruin him. He started the World Championships on the 1st line. Tomorrow he's going to start on the checking line. His confidence seems shot.

Yeah the Brent Burns trade has to hurt. At last years draft when it was announced my first thought was this deal is similar to the Yashin trade. The Sharks are going to regret this in a BIG way.

Portland just forced game 7 with a 3-2 win tonight at the Rose Garden. I rather enjoyed Kevin Lowe's son being on the ice for the last two Hawks goals (including the GWG).

Well what do ya know, Carruth did have a good game in him (guy can grow a mean playoff beard too). If he plays like that in game 7, Portland can win this series after all.

Yeah it's pretty sweet to see your local junior teams' players get drafted by your favorite NHL team, though for me the Sharks haven't drafted any Chiefs in ages. But yeah that trade is pretty bumming, not only for that reason, but also because the Sharks' minor league system is starved for prospects. Someone should tell DWil that you can sign free agents and not have to give up anyone.

At least Burns didn't have a 12 year contract (or whatever Yashin's was) but yeah I think that trade did set the Sharks back. I was hoping the Sharks would take Ty Rattie during the draft last year before the pick was traded away. All he did was score 60 goals during the regular season and 20 in the playoffs. Oh well I guess.

Well what do ya know, Carruth did have a good game in him (guy can grow a mean playoff beard too). If he plays like that in game 7, Portland can win this series after all.

He played pretty good tonight, I hope Portland can send Edmonton packing tomorrow night.

I'm not 100% certain, but I think it will be. The Mariners game will be over by game time and game 6 tonight was given priority over the Seattle Sounders match so I can't think of anything that they'd show instead of game 7. I'd plan on it being on.

Just to confirm for anyone in the Northwest US, the game tonight between Portland and Edmonton will be broadcast live on Root at 5.

The Edmonton Oil Kings are the 2012 WHL champions after beating Portland in game 7 by a score of 4-1. Edmonton flat out dominated this game, getting the first goal in early in the game and taking a 4-0 lead midway through the second. From there Portland never even came close to generating any kind of consistent scoring threat.

So the Memorial Cup field is now set: Edmonton, London, Saint John and Shawinigan. Should be an interesting tournament this year.


/Edit: I'm also gonna eat some crow regarding the Oil Kings. They sure proved me wrong. I'll have mine well done with salt and pepper please.
