Its the playoffs, most starters only go 5 or 6 innings anyways. My issue is the 0-2 counts that he wastes several pitches on and turns into 8-12 pitch at bats.

i don't think that's true. most SOX starters go maybe 5. and it matters because if you're throwing that many pitches you're walking guys.
notice how many pitches valdez has thrown ... 20 fewer same innings.
