Mayer is not a 1st round TE, IMHO (size and blocking)
Only 1st rounder would be Brock Bowers but he'll be gone by 14.
His teammate as one of our 3rd round picks would be a solid blocker with pass catching ability.
Darnell Washington, TE, Georgia
Height: 6-7. Weight: 265.
Projected 40 Time: 4.77.
bowers is 2024 but most sites have mayer #1 TE

I think Mayer will be gone at #14.

If one of the top three OTs are available, the Oline has to be fixed.

I'd look for TE LaPorta at #47 if Bill takes an OL at #14.

Then defense and a CB 6'2" or taller.

Yes agreed if there quality OT we grab him that has to be the priority. They tend to go fast so it then becomes is there vaule in the next OT or do we take another position of need or trade down

Bring in Lovie Smith as the DC? Thoughts?
How is te an issue with the guys you signed?
Smith was useless and he's a FA. Henry was ok. But he didn't play up to expectations. He has a year remaining on his contract. Mayer from ND could be a generational talent. If he is there when NE picks I'd take him.

The problem is that this is a weak OL class. Better in my opinion to try to sure up the OL in FA take a flyer on a OT/G in the mid rounds and hope one is a diamond in the rough. Or at least a cubic zirconia.

I agree there are 4 TEs that are quality TE so at 14 I agree OT is the way to go and I feel you can get one at 14. That would mean passing on Mayer or BB lands a stud OT in FA

Cade Stover or Darnell Washington on day 2 if Mayer is gone at #14.

Mayer is the only TE 1st round talent in this draft.

Stover and Washington are solid blockers and can catch. Could use them to help sure up the Oline issues.

There is a TE at Oregon State that is really good. I watch a lot of college football he is good can not remember his name at this time. I can look him up if need be

Luke Musgrave. Has a lot of tools but got injured last year. Projected late 1st or early 2nd round.

Darnell is a beast. He will help shore up the O-line!
Reporters love Mayer. I'm hearing that he is an average blocker. I could be wrong on Mayer but I have been watching Darnell here in Georgia.
