When Will Sam Bradford Be Benched For Mark Sanchez?

I don't see Chip making that move this season in absence of an injury to Bradford.

I think if they start out, say 0-4 Chip will be making a move.

I don't think it will come to that. Bradford can and will play better than we have seen.

The real question is how much better? The worst case scenario for the Eagles is that Sam Bradford plays just good enough to make this an 8-8 or 9-7 team. Then they are out of the running for any of the top rookies in the draft, and the Eagles will have also seen enough potential to be tempted to bring him back. I could imagine a 9-7 record with Bradford passing for 3800 yards, 22 TDs and 16 INTs and maybe an 85 QBR. After this 0-2 start, it would be a fair debate whether that is a success to build on, or they should cut him loose and start over.

That worst-case scenario unfortunately is looking pretty darn realistic.

I would say it will be this weekend. Against that front 7 and Todd Bowles this is going to get very very ugly.

I expect the Jets D to make him look terrible.

Reading a stat from Matt Berry that Bradford is one of the worst QBs over his career when under pressure. This kind of jibes with the preseason hero, practice king and junk time stat padder comments that we keep hearing. He is the anti-Tebow....perfect form and looks great in practice, but folds under pressure. Kelly may need to re-visit his teabag analogy.

I am starting to buy into this line of thinking even though I would love to see Bradford prove people wrong.

I think NYJ make him look bad again, but that is expected by most. So no, Chip doesn't bench him after that. Now if we play WAS the following week and he looks just as bad????? Then I think he starts taking a serious look at a switch.

I do think he is capable of doing better than this. But I have to say I'm shocked at the lack of fire and leadership he portrays. He might be totally different in the locker - and from TV you can't see a lot on the sidelines - but he seems totally lacking leadership abilities right now.

But as Wiz says, if we kick NYJ's butt - this becomes a horse of another color. I wouldn't put money on it tho. Would you?? (got any money on this weeks game wiz??)

Bradford will start every game. Unless he gets hurt we will not see Sanchez. Besides we would not be any better with Sanchez. This looks like a 500 season if we are lucky!

Sanchez last year was better than Bradford so far this year. There is a good chance with Eagles would be 2-0 at this point with Sanchez.

Bradford is not playing well so far. He isn't moving in the pocket. He isn't selling play fakes. He is making poor decisions on where to go with the ball. He is being inaccurate. He is not testing the defense deep.

That said, its still early, and Bradford has a higher ceiling. You have to ride with him and hope he gets better. I am talking myself out of this unlimited leash though. The Eagles need to see the Bradford promise in the next two weeks or I could see them making a switch.

Sanchez is a good quarterback and the Eagles can win with him. I don't buy the anti-hype that Sanchez is limited and you can't win with him. Look at his history and you will see multiple AFC championship games and the #5 overall pick in the draft. Sanchez'sa overall body of work is actually more promising than Bradford's.

They are both scrap heap projects at the end of the day though. There have been plenty of these projects that have paid off over the years though. Brees, Dilfer, Testaverde, Young, Gannon.

Chip has to play Bradford long enough to evaluate whether he is worth signing to a long-term contract. But that evaluation may not be as long as some think. One or two more games and Chip may have seen enough to know the guy ain't worth it.

Reid benched Kolb after a bad half. He had seen enough to know Kolb nearly shit himself in that half against Green Bay, and was not leadership material. We may see a similar quick hook here for Bradford.
