You mean "what's it like to lose to the Gamecocks last time you played them?"

1-1 vs SC east

High expectations a lot of attention good and bad. We may get positive attention when it comes to rankings and coverage. But USC does also play some tough ooc games and when it comes to negative attention they get that a little harder too. We got hit harder then some teams with the sanctions

Georgia Tech used to be a traditional power but has transitioned into being a historical power as of late. Blah.

I enjoy being a fan of a traditional power. The negative attention doesn't bother me because it means we're relevant. In fact, that's one of the things I've hated during the sanctions.

Also, during the down times that all traditional powers inevitably go through, it's nice to know that it won't last forever.

So who do we consider tradational powers? I say the givens are...

Oklahoma
Alabama
Ohio St.
Notre Dame
Texas
Usc
Nebraska
Michigan

After that is gets shakey. I would go tier 2 as....

Fsu, Florida, Miami, Penn St., Auburn, Lsu, and Washington.

What say you?

It doesn't Suck, until you become the Great Validator to teams you shouldn't lose to, and give them some credibility.
Then it sucks a little.

Other than that, it's great.

It feels great. Only problem is that you take the losses much harder. I mean if you cheer for SMU, how bad can another loss really get?

See Miami and Fsu sucked until the 1990's. Is that far enough back to call them a traditional powerhouse? And Tennessee has not been good in a while. For sure not top 10 imo. And Penn State hasn't been good since the mid 80's.

Well I remember when nobody cared at all about FSU. But it's been like 25 years now, and they've been well above average in that time. I'm not sure where the cutoff is exactly for traditional, but they are beating on the door.

Tennessee still deserves it, they won a BCS NC even if it was the first one. They are down, but it's doubtful that will last forever.

Miami doesn't belong. They've never been a steady power, they had a few decent years before moving to the ACC and totally bombing.

Penn St, I dunno. Maybe they should be called traditional Big10 power.

Frustrating when things aren't going so good.

When someone with less history, say MSU, is doing not doing great it hardly gets mentioned, because it isn't unexpected. On the flip side, when Michigan is down (and let's be honest, everyone goes through a down period) all people can talk about is "when will Michigan be back?"

Though as a plus, as much as people try to harass you for falling back on past glories, at least we have that to fall back on to. Because when Michigan is doing well, and the other guy isn't, they don't have anything to fall back on.

Right and if they count why not Oregon? (Besides the obvious no title thing dammit)

Oregon has been good since the early 90s too.

By the way, I don't consider them a "traditional" power. I'm glad they're a current power

I know Oregon has had ups and downs in their history but I was a little surprised to see that their first 10 win season didn't come until 2000.

And thus, why Oregon is not a traditional power.

I couldn't tell you. As a UGA fan I've always been jealous of the success of Alabama, Florida and LSU.

Really, Dale Earnhardt Sr has been the only powerhouse I have ever pulled for as my favorite in a sport.
