There's literally zero reason for a blue blood like Bama to schedule a tough P5 OOC ( same applies for any other blue blood / new power like Clemson )

Those types of teams don't need tough ooc games to "prove" themselves as they will always receive the benefit of the doubt under the current format . Most years those teams also get a free pass on a loss you won't see other teams get .

So scheduling a tough ooc has FAR more risk than reward for them. Yes it sucks for fans but fans of those types of teams would rather see a shitty ooc and a playoff berth than a great ooc and no playoff

Frankly I'm surprised any top tier team still schedules a tough ooc game
Perhaps, but could also argue OSU would have benefited from a tougher OOC game and win last year than TCU. Or if TCU was the same team they were when the game was scheduled.

Correct....and Bama DOES have an atrocious sched.

And, yes, OSU does as well but in this scenario we'd be undefeated and a CCG champ.

I mean when it is all said and done who knows how good Ohio St's schedule will be, but at this point. Their ooc was decent, Cincy was supposed to lifting that and they could if they finish with one loss. As of right now Ohio St plays 4 ranked teams...wouldn't say that is atrocious.
Bama plays 3 ranked teams and their ooc is really really bad.

A tougher OOC wouldn't have helped much...you can lose by 30 to Purdue or a mediocre team and expect to get in...that is said for any team.

Meant to say our OOC and for OSU it is pretty bad. Cincy is decent, but should never be the best team on an OSU OOC schedule. I get at one time it was TCU (and was a top team when added to sched.)

I disagree....had this been the year they won at Oklahoma I think they'd have gotten in. For sure they'd have had a better chance.

The real problem is there are very few P5 teams who truly schedule a challenging overall OOC schedule. USC and UCLA do. Nobody else does. All of the others have an FCS and / or lower level G5 on the schedule. Playing one great OOC game does not automatically qualify as a tough OOC schedule. It's more like a tough OOC game. What Alabama and Clemson can control is not playing FCS and not playing lower level G5 teams. What they cannot control is finding a super tough OOC team to play at their level every single year, as that is a limited number of teams. Ohio State and Oklahoma are already booked up!

Instead of ending the season with a Clemson-Alabama game, why not start the season with one?
I wish but Bama don’t do Home and Home :sigh:

They MIGHT have gotten in even with an top 10 OOC win but still probably not...when you lose by 30 to any team that is going to be a huge glaring point but when you lose by 30 to a bad team you will likely not get in the playoff. The committee said the gap was pretty big and it wasn't the schedule that didn't get them in...it was a bad blowout loss. It's something you can't recover from.

Pretty sure the committee said the entire time the gap was close. certainly not ideal to lose a game like that but I am confident with a marquee OOC win or, say, had Clemson dropped a game OSU gets in.

Good news! They are open for home and home business starting in 2022. They have signed with Texas (22/23), Wisconsin (24/25), West Virginia (26/27), Notre Dame (28/29) and Oklahoma (32/33).

Like NASCAR....have their version of the SuperBowl (Daytona) to kick off the season!

Well as you can see in my "scenario" you have 3 power 5 conference champions undefeated and then 3 1 loss sec teams one of which is the conference champion.

Do you really think a 1 loss pac 12 champion is in the discussion? Be honest sir.

Actually yes, they'd be in the discussion, and would have a legit gripe about being left out. But yes, they would be left out, even though they had the same loss as Georgia.

I agree with you. Unfortunately, it seems like most other DO consider one OOC P5 opponent as a tough OOC schedule. That's why we get a bunch of crap OOC lineups.

Not all games have to be OSU or OU caliber to improve their OOC slates. The difficulty is keeping 7-8 home games and still improving it. Better teams want a return game. Lesser teams can demand such.

Good grief. The kids that will play in this game are 6-8 years old now!

Cal somehow running the table would be the most hilarious scenario. Imagine all the mental gymnastics and justifying the CFB Playoff committee would have to come up with for leaving them out for a 1 loss SEC.

Not that this is likely to happen. But one can imagine.
