They MIGHT have gotten in even with an top 10 OOC win but still probably not...when you lose by 30 to any team that is going to be a huge glaring point but when you lose by 30 to a bad team you will likely not get in the playoff. The committee said the gap was pretty big and it wasn't the schedule that didn't get them in...it was a bad blowout loss. It's something you can't recover from.
Maybe but I still think OSU gets in in 17 if they don't schedule Oklahoma . 12-1 with a B10 title ( even with a 31 point loss ) trumps 11-1 with no SEC title and a 12 point loss.

There are instances you can point to where maybe a team gets in with a better ooc but there's never been a blue blood with only 1 loss left out in favor of a non blue blood with 1 loss if both are conference champs . To me that means elite programs only need to worry about 2 things A. Not losing 2+ and B. Winning their conference . In that order .

Instead of ending the season with a Clemson-Alabama game, why not start the season with one?

We've already done one, so has, Auburn, Georgia, Texas A&M...and, you know LSU and Georgia are on their future schedule, and South Carolina of course plays them every year. What I don't see is any B1G teams on Clemson's future schedule...in fact, I think they have not played a B1G team in the regular season in the BCS/Playoff era.

This year seems like the biggest threat for the dreaded 3 SEC team playoff. Unfortunately

if the B1G and Big 12 champs end up with 1 loss.

Georgia 12-1 - only loss to Auburn in regular season
Auburn 12-1 - only loss to Georgia in the SEC title game
Alabama 11-1 - only loss was to Auburn
Oklahoma - 13-0
Ohio State 13-0
Clemson 13-0

What's happening and who's out?

Georgia as the SEC champion goes to the playoffs along with the 3 undefeated teams. Alabama and Auburn are out.

The 3 undefeated teams and Georgia make it in to the college football playoffs in this scenario.

I can't stomach ohio state ... so let's say Wisconsin

1. Clemson (My opinion #1 until someone beats them)
2. Wisconsin (I favor the B1G)
3. Oklahoma (Undefeated ... enough said)
4. Georgia (SEC Champion)

First playoff without Alabama ... it had to happen sometime.

And saban will be long gone. They waited to start doing home and homes until he was about to leave
I think that is part of the reason the other schools agreed to them too. Alabama will still be tough but not Saban tough by the time they roll into town.

Yeah and it all depends on the circumstances. Too many close games last year where they werent impressive, gave up 51 to Maryland. Their defense was just so bad. I already see a huge difference this year, hopefully I am right. We will see tonight against Nebraska, at least a little flash of whats to come

This is about as open and shut as you can get. Alabama and Auburn are obviously the teams that are out in this scenario without any doubt.
