I saw a discussion get out of control when five commentators tried to answer and then argue the following:

What do you think is the best scenario for each category for the New England patriots in obtaining a quarterback:

Draft
Trade
Free Agency

The idea was to come up with a sensible idea for each possible way to fill the position. The rules were that you could not make a totally stupid suggestion like Stidham for Watson.

Mond is at A&M but Ill take him over Book.

I still think we end up with Mac Jones

My bad. He had a great Senior Bowl about 175 passing and 2 TDs. In 2020 he had a QB Rating of 146.8 for the entire season. Only played 10 games but averaged 260 yards per game. Pus he can move out on his own if pressed.

I'm a little concerned about Jones because he's had an outstanding cast around him and that can hide a lot blemishes.

I agree Jones cast of supporters top to bottom was very damn good. I too worry about the pick it just feel like a BB pick to me I would be okay with being wrong

Options aplenty.
The Pats will not end up with any of the guys I like in the draft which is basically Lawrence, Lance or Fields.
Trade? Watson is overpriced no matter how you slice it. Jimmy G or Matty Ice, but I don't see Matty Ice being available.
FA...they all suck, they all just suck a little less than Cam.

If they could package a bunch of redundant positions or dead weight...or trade some for picks then package the picks to move up maybe.

Unload Gilmore, Harry, Michel, nobody want Stiddy...

Then hit FA for other Skill positions, TE, WR and LB?

What I saw from him showed he WAS part of that outstanding cast. As QB you have to make plays. You may get a larger error margin but you still have to make the plays. Usually the error margin I'm referring to is a less tight window of which to throw, but Mac has tremendous accuracy.

In his case I think the "his surrounding cast" shouldn't create as much doubt.

All this gets way to complicated for me. I said before I think BB would be okay with Jimmy G or Darnold, Ryan and some of these pieces may fall in his lap.

I am not opposed to trading Gilmore but he is a top 3 CB in this league and we have no idea how Jackson will look with out him that's a tall order replacing him. But if it helps the build along.

At 15 BB will take best player available at position of need be it WR DT ILB etc..

We really need to see what free agency dealings are made. This team is not as bad as they appear if they have a decent QB. I

Draft _get lucky. I'd rather be lucky than smart.

Trade - Make a deal for Wentz. Getting the contract right will be difficult.

Free Agency. Who's going to be available and at what price? Dak at discount with incentives?

The problem with Wentz is that $144M, 4 year contract tat escalates with the cap. He's never played up to it.

In all honesty, If BB could get him for a 3rd and Gilmore, I'd love to see Matt Ryan finish his career in Foxboro.
He'd have a good OL in front of him, BB could draft and sign WR free agents and there's a stable of RBs to help. Getting rid of Gilmore and cannon would provide an extra $26M of free agent spending money that would land a bunch of young, solid veterans.

If you're going for an old guy, Ryan is the guy.

I don't watch college ball but Ryan would be "coming home" would he not?

The longer this goes on the more likely it is that Cam Newton will be our starting QB next season.
Nothing can or will be done until March 17. So everything will continue unless BB swings a trade.

Even Bill knows that Cam is not an answer to the need at QB. My gut tells me that he'd go hard for Brissett or even Dalton rather than bring back Cam. Nor do I belive that Cam would come back for another incentive laden contract with a $1M base salary.

With smarts you can control your own destiny, but with luck you need to count on the direction of the wind... I'd rather be smart.
