What do you think of a 17-game season?

As talks continue for a new collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and the players' union, the most dramatic proposal on the table from owners is an expanded regular season to 17 games that could eliminate preseason games in their entirety, sources told ESPN.

So how is that 17th game going to work? A 16-game schedule with the 32-team league sets up nicely. What would determine who plays who in Game 17?

Might be nice for STH's who get fucked on the extra PS game they pay for, but that's where the advantages end.

Not sure how you work that. 16 sets up perfectly with having eight divisions of four teams, adding an extra just sounds like a nightmare.

I say leave it alone, or....

Take away two preseason games, and add 3 regular season games, which equates to one additional game of football.

Lets take my AFC North for example for schedule:

You play your division twice (6 games). One AFC division in full every 3rd year (4 games). One NFC division in full every 4th year (4 games). 1 game against the other 5 divisions with the team equal to your placement the year before (5 games).

6 + 4 + 4 + 5 = 19 games

Would lead to better match ups in the other 5 individual division games. If you can't project this type of addition to the schedule, then leave it at 16 games and how it is.

The NFL should just stop fucking with the schedule. It works, and we've already got enough dud games in December, much of which is due to injury.

Just leave the schedule alone.

The season is already a battle of attrition where a big factor in a team's success is how healthy they are at the end of the season so we don't need another game to make that even worse.

As much as I wouldn't like it I would rather them expand the playoffs if they absolutely must do something. That would still be a bad idea but not as bad as adding more games to the regular season.

there is no way they will have the players play over 16 games & they are nowhere close to having players being forced to take a week off. So the only way to extend the season is with a 2nd bye week.

Cut down to 3 preseason games. Keep 16 regular season games. Add an extra bye week for each team during the regular season.

That's about the only change I'd want to see happen. Going to 17 games is dumb af.

For schedulinh you either have to go to 18 or 19. 18 you can play 2 teams from each other division you're not matching up with each year or 19 you can just play a whole nother division in your own conference but 17 doesn't work I don't think . It would really unbalance schedules
