Clearly it still counts but would there be an asterisk next to the Suns title win if they ended up beating the Lakers without AD, the Nuggets without Murray, the Clippers without Kawai, and the Bucs without Giannis? That’s a hell of path they didn’t face.

Obviously they can’t help who they play but that’s a hell of a run without facing the opposing number 1 or number 2 for 90-100% of the series.

There's no such thing as an 'asterisk'. Where is it written down? But people can and do remember different title runs and 2021 will be remembered for that. Still, had to have someone win the war of attrition and that's a title fair and square.

If you ever needed a sign of the biggest dopes, it's those that constantly spout off asterisk seasons.

No. I can absolutely guarantee you there will be no asterisk next to the Suns name in the history book if they are fortunate enough to win a title.

No asterisk. Seasons play out how they play out and injuries are part of the game. Most of the teams that are out due to injury have built top heavy rosters. That's great and can win you championships. In fact, that's pretty much been the preferred way for awhile now.

But as we saw this year, it can turn around and bite you in the ass if you lose a top player or 2 and don't have guys who can step in and pick up the slack.

Similar to last year in the bubble or the year before when the Raptors won because the Warriors lost KD, Steph and Klay, folks will make a mental note that it was an odd year where some weird stuff happened and Suns fans will get teased a little, but that's about it.

Exactly. Which is why we are here.

shortened season last year with the Orlando tourney favors the vets with rested legs. Fast forward a few months later if that and it’s why we are looking at Suns and Hawks in the finals. Fairly young teams but injury issues all over the place.
The Suns vs Bucks you mean.

Absolutely not. Here are some examples why.

2015. Warriors beat an injured Cavs team in the Finals. That season G.S. didn't face a single team in the playoffs that was 100% healthy.

2016. Cavs beat a banded up Warriors team.

2019. Raptors beat an injured Warriors team.

2020. Lakers take care of business, Bam & Goran injured during the Finals.

None of those title winning teams have an asterisk. And this season should be no different.

No, there will be.

But not because of injuries.

There will be an asterisk because the NBA played a 72 game season due to the late start from Covid.

Anything that is different than normal gets an asterisk. That is what they are for.

The asterisk however does not devalue the accomplishment in any way. That is a made up thing by sports fans. And it doesn’t really make sense.

Not sure about an asterisk because of the 72 game season. Looked some info up on nba.-com and found this. NBA season recap: a look back ay every season since 1946

They don't have an asterisk next to the '99 Spurs. Wasn't that a shortened season due to a lockout? Don't really remember and don't wanna look it up.

Just did 1 search on Wikipedia, the first thing that came up.

They had asterisks on ‘99, ‘12, 2020, etc

Except there isn't an actual asterisk written anywhere that matters.
