We are all pretty smart Fans so let's try something new and talk about what we got to do or who we have to contain/stop?

To me. Contain the law office of Kupp/Nacua/Jefferson but don't sell out because Kyren Williams is not only a great back but is on a hot streak now

You would think running ball efficiently , time of possession, long drives ,mix in passes and keeping those Stafford and Ram receivers on sidelines would be great but i dont see that happening.

I think the problem has been running the ball efficiently.

A win against the Rams would be a real moral booster. I'm plum tired of losing to them. Rams are 16th in pass defense and 23rd in run defense, so Seahawks offense should have a good day. Home game. Just win baby to quote Al Davis.

Definitely would be huge for us... But the Bills were 17th in run defense last week and that didn't seem to help... We are what our OL is each game... If they can't step it up, it will be more difficult each game to run... Let's hope Fant can come back this weekend... We know we'll have Abe after the bye...

I think one thing that REALLY needs to stop is this quick break and then spend 25 seconds dickin' around at the line.

I have to wonder if you asked the OL and some players, "Are you confused by this?" They'd say, "ABSOLUTELY." I have to wonder if these play changes at the line are confusing, if the right messaging is not getting in. Jesus in the Atlanta game you had Bobo or Barner or whoever basically running across the line with 1-2 seconds left on the playclock and nearly blocking the football from being snapped.

Our offense looks like a college offense at the moment. This quick/no huddle and then trying to call stuff at the line is weird. No Grubb, Geno Smith is NOT Peyton Manning (who did most of that stuff on the fly because his football IQ was off the charts). You have 3 very young offensive lineman and a Center who is coming off a major injury... now is not the time to start throwing out 5 audibles every play.

I look at a lot of our offensive plays this year and guys seem generally frustrated or confused. Missing blocks, just taking wrong angles, receivers running some wrong routes... now you could say, "Give it time" but Seattle's O looks exactly like a College offense. And that DOES NOT WORK, in the NFL. Sure we just had a good game against Atlanta because Cousins imploded in the 2nd half, but that game very much could've been a lead for Atlanta at the end of the 1st half. Cousins missed a wide open RB for a TD earlier (just missed the throw, didn't even get knocked down).

As for the defense, yikes. I dunno. You gotta remember in Baltimore, Mac generally had the lead. Lamar and the offense were getting enough clock chewed up and getting out ahead where Mike's defense can then really tee off. Atlanta was another good example of that. The offense was making scores (partly because Atlanta has ZERO pass rush and their defense was also a little beat up) and when Seattle had the lead, you could see where Mike's defense basically could pin their ears back, bring a huge pass rush, and start disrupting.

But generally Mike hasn't had the lead all year. The offense has shot themselves in the foot a lot with penalties and very questionable playcalling and a style of offense that I don't think works in the NFL. As for the run defense, I don't know why Seattle can't stop it. Look if you gotta put 8 in the box, fine... I don't care if you get passed on... at least you can stuff the run. Kyren Williams will probably run all over us. And here's ANOTHER game, the Rams don't really have a great run defense, they have a very good pass rush as both their rookies have worked out... so is Grubb going to be huckin' it 24/7? Probably.

I think you are trying to do your best to play Grubb's playcalling while ignoring the absolute shitshow our OL is. We have no inside running game. It's basically a dead play. I don't care if you have Bill Walsh calling plays, you have to get SOMETHING from those runs.

Well, here's my thought flyer, and give me a bit of rope here... I think Seattle's inside running game or lack thereof is due to this goofball system we're running with Grubb and him asking Geno to walk up to the line like it's a hurry up every time and then be like, "OH WAIT, no. Take a dump while I figure out wtf to do over the next 20 seconds, and then do that, but make sure everything is okay, and make sure the OL and RBs, and WRs and everyone is fine with stuff, and be Peyton Manning or Tom Brady and OMGOMFOMFOFM!@!!!"

I mean it's getting a little beyond ridiculous at this point.

My point to the post you quoted (and again I'm just some random Seahawks fan trying to make some understanding of this) is the OL is so confused as to WTF is going on, that they don't know who to block, what assignments there are, who is doing what, you got Barner and Bobo running around in the backfield fucking up the snaps, a center who is flat footing his QB, two guards that have no clue WTF is going on... at what point is it enough? I think Seattle especially offensively has no identity as a team.

Mac says he wants to run the ball and play tough. Well that's not happening. Then you have Grubb chucking it downfield and calling a massive pass to rush favored ratio. You have Seattle coming out passing the ball a ton, no establishment of the run or any sort of run philosophy. You're jamming Walker up the middle like he's Marshawn 2.0... the OL seems absolutely clueless as to WTF you're trying to do... and then to top it all off you got fuckin D. Williams back there doing God knows WTF...

Whatever, I've gone into rant mode.

You are the only person I see ANYWHERE criticizing the Seahawks for getting the line quickly. IMO, I find it a pretty strange criticism.

Getting up the the line quickly is great. It allows Grubb to see the personnel and defensive formation. Get to the line with 24 seconds and have 8 seconds to call a play.

OTOH, you DON'T want the offense to run at a high tempo. You WANT the clock to go down to 5 seconds before you snap it. Maybe you liked it better when we were breaking the huddle with less than 10 seconds and calling timeouts all the time because they couldn't get the ball off but that wasn't for me.

You act like offensive miscues aren't throughout the league. The Bills have one of the best OLs in the league and they still had a bunch of penalties.

Mac says he wants to run the ball and play tough. Well that's not happening. Then you have Grubb chucking it downfield and calling a massive pass to rush favored ratio. Seattle's first 5 running plays...

-2 yards
4 yards
1 yard
-1 yard
3 yards
3 yards
1 yard

7 carries for 10 yards. Those 1 yard and negative yard runs are crushing.

It's possible that Grubb's system won't work in the NFL. But giving up on it 8 games into the process because the team struggles against Super Bowl contenders is pretty silly.

Well wait a minute here flyer... We're going no huddle but in then a lot of cases making changes at the line and taking it down to 1 second of playclock anyway. I don't want to let the clock go down to 5 seconds, but we're doing that. Also, I'm just speculating (and I very clearly called myself out as just a fan and not a football genius who is slated for the next head coaching job), that getting up to the line and then calling a bunch of audibles or waiting for plays to come in from the sideline/booth, especially with a VERY young offense, is probably confusing.

I'm the only person you've seen complain about this? Like on this forum?

Yah, the Bills had a ton of penalties. They played horribly sloppy, and still overcame it and abused Seattle. As for your list of running plays, I get it. It doesn't look pretty, but how much of that is based on the system Grubb is running and his playcalls? We just seem to jam runningbacks up the middle in shotgun formations while calling audibles non-stop and prob. confusing the F out of everyone.

I mean your last sentence:

It's possible that Grubb's system won't work in the NFL. But giving up on it 8 games into the process because the team struggles against Super Bowl contenders is pretty silly.

That kind of sums up what I'm saying and please understand this is just speculation. I don't think what Grubb is doing works. I'm not going to be the asshole that comes back here in 2025 and says, "SEE SEE I TOLD YOU SO!" it's just my thought on it. The offense seems highly confused and not really sure what they're doing as a TEAM and unit.

Now the speculation of whether to give up on it after 8 games, a season, two seasons? I dunno... but I've kind of held the stance all along that this team is too talented to be getting absolutely blown the fuck out in home games like this.

But they AREN'T going right down to 1 second most of the time. And they've had FAR fewer time outs/Delay of Games than we had last season.

The offense ISN'T very young. No rookie starters on offense. One rookie spells our RG. 2 2nd year players. Granted I'm not including Terrell as I don't think you can change your entire offense because you are on your 4th RT.

I'm the only person you've seen complain about this? Like on this forum?

I follow a bunch of football analysis podcast/youtubers.

Most offenses run shotgun on most plays. Some QBs HATE playing under center. If you plan on running RPOs that pretty requires shotgun

You've been calling for Grubb to be fired every time we have a bad game. This team does NOT have a ton of talent. It has talent in the skill positions and below average offensive line. The defensive line is much better but still not elite.

Don't be a prisoner of the moment. Teams get blown out sometimes. Move on to Sunday. See what they do.

Alright... I'll stand patiently by... You're much more optimistic than I am flyer.

It's not that I'm optimistic per se. I just don't think we have nearly enough evidence to judge them one way or the other.

One thing I absolutely hate is when teams get on the coaching carousel. Teams that get on the carousel usually stay on the carousel for a long time. Barring something absolutely crazy happening, there is no way I want to see major coaching changes this year.

If we were expecting the system to work out of the box we should have hired someone like Dan Quinn and some veteran coordinators.

Yah I mean fair points flyer...

I thought we'd be competitive this year given the talent on this team. I'm disappointed that we seem lost as a collective team. I also wonder if Mac would've profited from a more veteran OC to handle that side of the team. I mean McVay went out and got Wade Phillips, take someone that knows wtf they're doing instead of a rookie coord coming from a college pass program.

Were we lost 2 weeks ago against the Falcons?

Grubb wasn't the one who snapped the ball 30 yards back on the 3 yard line.
