Game Thread: Week 1: Denver Broncos at New York Giants

It is that time that we should start discussing the 2022 week 1 game against the New York Giants. I am sure fans for both teams feel like this is a winable game. Let's look at how each ranked at the end of last year.
Denver Broncos:
Offense:
Average Yards per Game: 335.6 yards per game ranking 22nd.
Passing Yards per Game: 215.7 yards per game ranking 25th.
Rushing Yards per Game: 119.9 yards per game ranking 13th.
Points per Game: 20.2 points per game ranking 28th.
Defense:
Average Yards per Game: 367.9 yards per game ranking 21st.
Passing Yards per Game: 237.9 yards per game tied for 16th.
Rushing Yards per Game: 130.0 yards per game ranking 25th.
Points per Game: 27.9 points per game ranking 25th.
Turnover Margin: -16 turnover margin ranking 32nd.

New York Giants:
Offense:
Average Yards per Game: 299.6 yards per game ranking 31st.
Passing Yards per Game: 189.1 yards per game ranking 29th.
Rushing Yards per Game: 110.5 yards per game ranking 19th.
Points per Game: 17.5 points per game ranking 31st.
Defense:
Average Yards per Game: 349.3 yards per game ranking 12th.
Passing Yards per Game: 237.9 yard per game tied for 16th
Rushing Yards per Game: 111.4 yards per game tied for 10th.
Points per Game: 22.3 points per game ranking 9th.
Turnover Margin: 0 turnover margin tied for 17th.

Oddly enough our offense is last year was better then the the Giants offense in every category, but turnovers. We will also have a Sutton back (maybe not full strength yet) and a better Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler. Gordon really came on towards the end of the year and Javonte fits teh offense better then Lindsay did, sadly. I am not sold on Bridgewater, but with no tape of him in our offense there is a degree of unknown how Shurmur might use him.

On defesne the Broncos are much healthier and the D has been pretty good, and Barkley is not going to be at full strength yet, which doesn't hurt.

Broncos are currently a 2.5 point forite, and I think the win this game. Sadly we have 12+ days to wait for the game.

Giants oline is an absolute dumpster fire right now, imo. PFF had them as the 32nd unit and they looked like it in preseason. In week 1 last year I believe the Giants had Barkley against the Steelers and Pittsburgh went all in on shutting him down and they did. 15 carries, 6 yards. 6 receptions 60 yards. Steelers were up 26-10 in the 4th but the Giants had a lot of garbage time yards to make the game closer. Daniel Jones had 2 or 3 turnovers and eventually that sealed the game. I think the game should resemble that one so Id guess 24-13 with Denver winning.

If Engram and Barkley are questionable then the Giants might have the worst offense in the league and Denver should have a top 10 D. If the Giants oline is better and their weapons are healthy then I think this is a 50/50 game. I just dont think that will be the case.

This game will tell a lot about Denver. NY's OL is young and improving but not great. Denver's defense should be putting a ton of pressure on Jones. We will find out how good the DL and the secondary are in this game.

Sounds like a no win situation.

Giants aren't that bad. They had a better record than Denver last year!!!

That’s my list of bottom of the barrel. At LEAST one is now guaranteed to make the playoffs!

this is a top 10 talent roster . shurmur needs to find the mismatches quickly because too many talented players for a team like NYG to match up against.

last year the first two games were on Shurmur not knowing how to use his personel.

Sounds like Evan Engram is more doubtful then questionable. Barkley will play but unlikely to have a full workload.

Fant should be good to play.

i think shurmur not using Gordon on the goal line 1st and goal from the 2 was a big reason why denver lost the tenn game and denver had a 3rd and 4 at pitts with driskell late in the game and did nothing to utilize right his running ability or ability to run a pass run option

Apparently Todd Davis just retired because Judge has been riding his players too hard. Giants are gonna have real problems putting in that effort for a coach they don’t believe in. Should be an easy win for us.
