Weeden vs. McCoy

Is it just me or has McCoy simply outperformed Weeden this preseason? It makes me wonder how long Weeden makes it as starter this season. Here are their stats:

Game 1:

Weeden - 3/9 62 yards, 0 tds 1 int, 19 QB rating
McCoy - 6/8 88 yads, 0 tds, 0 int, 110.4 QB rating

Game 2:

Weeden - 12/20 118 yards, 0 tds, 0 int, 76.7 QB rating
McCoy - 4/6 58 yards, 0 tds, 0 ints, 97.9 QB rating

Game 3:

Weeden - 9/20 117 yards, 0 tds, 0 int, 64 QB rating
McCoy - 7/9 74 yards, 1 tds, 0 int, 138.0 QB rating

It just seems to me that they handed over the QB job to Weeden based simply on his draft status and not by their play. Starting him most likely is going to hurt this team more than help.

Dodub, the stats are definitely lopsided but at the end of the day they are still just pre-season stats. That said, it happens all too often that better players sit while money plays - money always takes the field.

With regard to Weeden in particular, IMO, when you draft a 28-year old rookie QB in the first round, you just did something kind of dumb - I don't think this is going to turn out to be Cleveland's finest hour.

I agree. I have no idea why they would draft him in the 1st, it makes no sense. My thing is, if Weeden can't even perform in the pre-season then when can he perform? This has disaster written all over it.

Gordon has looked pretty good the last couple games, I think that will end up being a good pick up for them.

The stats look pretty horrible, but maybe it is because Weeden needs to benefit from schemes and plays designed to get WRs open. Maybe they'll take up Seattle on their desperate attempts to move T. Jackson... or just wait for him to get cut.

It is more about Weeden looking terrible than anything. The fact that McCoy has looked better, just makes it worse

Yeah, I agree with that. McCoy had a chance and sucked it up, now Weeden looks worse. 'Tis still early but I don't think anyone envisions a lotta' fireworks from that offense.

QB's statistics are irrelevant at this time of the year. Just look at Cam Newton's stats from last year if you want any proof.

Weeden > McCoy based on what at this point? Weeden has done absolutely nothing so far. The guy should not be starting right now, he's simply not ready, and the fact that he's already like 29 means that he was drafted WAY too early. Shoulda been a 3rd or 4th rounder at best.

I never really liked the idea of playing a guy simply based on your draft status. The best 11 should be on the field no matter if you are a 1st overall pick or undrafted. I honsetly don't see them having a huge future with Weeden so it doesn't matter if he plays now anyway. At some point you just gotta say 'hes not ready' and put the better (and younger) QB in the game.
