Excerpt:

In 2012, Shanahan and his offensive coordinator, son Kyle Shanahan, designed an offense to fit Griffin’s unique skills.
Defenses adjust, and Griffin isn’t going to make some of the plays he made in 2012. But some of what he did then still should work now.
In 2014, Gruden is asking Griffin to fit into a system that looks no different from most other systems in the NFL.
In terms of longevity, that’s good for the young quarterback. In terms of effectiveness, that’s bad for Griffin and the Redskins.

Excerpt:

As I alluded to on Twitter, if you have a quarterback who is 13/14 at the half, but who has thrown for only 59 yards, there is either something wrong with the quarterback's decision-making, or there is something wrong with your gameplan.

It may have been both, but there's little question about the latter. Would-be workhorse Alfred Morris ran the ball only 14 times, despite the fact that he was productive and the fact that Washington was playing a team with a superior pass rush. The running game could have been used to neutralize that rush to an extent, if nothing else.

"If I had to do it all over again Sunday, I probably would have run the ball more than I did," Gruden admitted at his Monday press conference.

While Gruden's candor is refreshing, it is also troubling.

It's too soon to draw a definitive conclusion on anything related to the 2014 Redskins, but there is some worry, here. Gruden has a good, proven offensive system. Gruden has a very talented group of skill players. Those are both facts, but facts that may be at odds nonetheless.

Put simply, is Gruden too committed to an offensive scheme designed for a group of players other than the ones he has?

Excerpt:

Yes, Tyler Polumbus had some problems with J.J. Watt in the pass game, most of them late. Funny thing is, during that same time left tackle Trent Williams had his own issues, with a hit and a sack -- yet you don't hear the same level of complaints about him. One is an average, at best, tackle facing arguably the best defensive player in the game. The other is a Pro Bowler who is facing a lesser caliber player. It's not wrong to expect more from the latter matchup. I like Williams' game, but my point is: the issues up front have never been one spot or one person. That was true again Sunday. As a group, though, the line was excellent in the run game.

That said, the best player on the line was center Kory Lichtensteiger and it wasn't close. He showed his quickness when blocking laterally, able to get his head and feet around the defender most of the time. He worked well to the linebackers and sealed off a handful of cutback lanes. Yes, he was shoved back on the fumble -- an issue compounded by Griffin's exit angle as Jay Gruden said. Still, overall, Lichtensteiger was very good.

The unknown question here is gruden asking for griffin to play in this system or was it griffin that demanded it? I think griffin has as much to do with it as gruden does. In any event, I expect it to change.

I agree. It is unknown.

The whole square peg in a round hole argument is legit IMO. I'd surmise it is a combination of Griff and Jay.

Excerpt:

Brian Orakpo did not get to the quarterback on Sunday against the Texans. He had a quiet day. He also dropped into coverage almost as much as he rushed and had few one-on-one situations when he did so.

Orakpo
While the Redskins need more from a guy they’re paying $11.5 million to, it’s also not as simple as saying he should have done a lot more. After re-watching the defense, Orakpo was not in position to do much at all, especially as a rusher. My initial thought was the same as others: Orakpo was too quiet.

I know its from the post (booooo) but interesting read none the less.

RGIII?s development is the No. 1 story line in the NFL this season, according to Trent Dilfer - The Washington Post

ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer managed to discuss Griffin’s development with Colin Cowherd on Monday without mentioning Kirk Cousins.

“RGIII maybe has gone to the Redskins and said, ‘I don’t want to be a running quarterback, I got hurt, I want to be a pocket guy,’” Cowherd said. “And now the Redskins are in a weird quandary, where he actually is a pretty good runner, but he doesn’t want to run as much. It seems this offense can’t figure out what to do with RGIII. I can’t figure out what they’re trying to do. Can you?”

“No,” Dilfer said. “I think you’re on to something here. Where I’m confused is, one, if he did go and say, I don’t want to be known as a running quarterback, why didn’t he go in and say I want to be known as a winning quarterback? To me, it’s too much about RGIII and not enough about the Washington Redskins. He should do whatever’s best to help his team win. And on that note, Jay Gruden’s calling plays and he’s making an effort — I saw them call six movement plays [against Houston], meaning getting RGIII outside his traditional launch point in the pocket. He called waggles, he called boots, he called misdirection counter-boots, he called naked boots. It was every effort to get RGIII comfortable outside of the pocket because he’s not comfortable inside the pocket yet. And that’s not the end of the world, you know what I mean? I think people go, to be great you have to be great from the pocket, and that’s true, but that could be four or five years from now.

I agree with this 100%

Some good points made in the article. This game plan against The Jags will be very interesting.

Hmmm - first of all this was prompted by Cowherd who is a notorious Redskins & RG3 hater (mainly because he has this huge man crush on Luck - I think that he wants to sleep with the guy). Now both of them speculate on something where they are clueless. Neither have any idea of what exactly has transpired at Redskins Park & it is irresponsible to just make this stuff up (no shocker there - ESPN does it all the time).

Forget about 4 or 5 years from now - how about waiting for 4 or 5 games from now? Shark - you just appear to look for any opportunity to badmouth RG3 and make sure that everyone knows that he is 100% responsible for any issues with the Redskins. Again - how about waiting another month before jumping to all of these conclusions? That is all I am asking for - if it is still a disaster - fine - bench him or whatever.
